Whether you're a first time grower or a seasoned botanist, there's an assload that composting has to offer!
To begin with, let's go over what composting is. Composting or compost piles are essentially the organic shit you don't end up using or in more basic terms, a pile of scraps.
To start with, you're gonna need to dig a hole, about 3 feet wide, a couple feet deep, it's not real important, all you need is a shovel. It's not rocket science to dig a fucking hole in the ground. Reason for a hole and not a bin is because you want that good bacteria and you want worms to break your scraps down.
If you're growing basic plants, then you can throw any old food scrap in there and wait awhile and viola, you have organic fertilizer with processed stuff, which is fine, I guess. But why not go the extra mile? The only thing I put in my compost is some sort of organic topsoil (not Miracle Gro) as your base and then just throw in some stuff like: banana peels, orange peels, watermelon rines, fruits and veggies that have gone past their expiration, the banana leaves from my plants, and anything else that hasn't been processed that can grow out of dirt.
Another thing you'll need is moisture, if the place you live at is a generally dry place, you'll need to water your compost or if your compost is in an area that rain can't really get to, you'll need to water your compost. Moisture speeds up the decomposition process, so why not?
After you have an adequate amount of scraps, you'll need to wait around 3-6 months and you've got yourself a homemade fertilizer that may work better than anything money can buy. All the while you're waiting, you'll need to take a hoe (tee hee) or a shovel and mix your compost around a little bit every couple weeks or so and continue to water it. Hope you enjoyed! Keep on growing!
