Their climatic adaptability has led to the fact that the plant of mankind was available for the most part of history.

Starting with the beginning is always a good decision. Finding the first traces of cannabis use needed more than just searching written sources. The plant was already used by humans before humans could write and document the application of something.

The oldest testimony of hemp use was found in a pottery shard in a village in Taiwan, Was created. A so far-reaching use of hemp means that marijuana could undoubtedly have been one of the first agricultural crops. Carl Sagan wrote about it in his book The Dragons of Eden, Speculations on the Origin of Human Intelligence in 1977, which states: "It would be very interesting to see whether the cultivation of cannabis in the history of mankind is the invention of agriculture and thus To civilization itself."

Up to 4000 v. All sources for the use of marijuana from China and Turkestan come, mostly hemp was used for oil for the food preparation as well as for the production of textiles. About 2700 v. The Chinese emperor described Shen Neng Cannabis as a drug for the first time.

Next, cannabis appeared in ancient Hindu texts from India. For the first time explicitly mentioned, it was in the holy text Atharvaveda. There it is described as a plant for sacred rituals, cannabis was essentially used as a sacrifice for Shiva. In the text, cannabis (especially in the form of Bhang) becomes a sacred grass.

As early as 2000 BC, The use of cannabis in India is mentioned. However, it is likely that the beginnings will still go further. Bhang is prepared with dried cannabis leaves, seeds and stems. They are ground to a paste and then mixed with milk, ghee and spices.
In the Vedic period, hemp was used for meditation in order to reach transcendent states. At the same time, it has also been used as an important part of Indian medicine to treat complaints and disorders such as fever, diarrhea, sunburn, phlegmatic conditions, constipation and loss of appetite as well as speech difficulties (such as lisps) and to increase the perception of one's own body.

Cannabis is used in European sources only 400 BC. It is described as being used in Russia to produce hemp ropes. However, the most famous early application in Europe is found in a nomadic tribe, the Scythians.

The Scythians were a nomadic people from the area of today's Iran, and they inhabited large areas and traveled long distances through Eurasia. They used cannabis for rituals and believed that the plant contained ancient, holy knowledge. Although the use in texts of the Scythians is not described, artifacts of 700 BC. Which contain hemp seed. The Scythians used hemp seeds for royal graves. There were also tents discovered for ancient death rituals, and in front of these tents were found bags of hemp seeds. Thus, cannabis has found its way to Northern Europe.

Around 430 BC. Cannabis had a great appearance in the texts of Herodotus, whose writings support the thesis that the Scythians brought the ritual use of cannabis to Europe. In this way, cannabis became an aid for rituals and intoxications.
About 200 years later, hemp ropes are found in Greece.

About 400 BC. Cannabis had spread all over the world. It is even probable that hemp has been used by humans long before the records began. At the time when marijuana came from Asia to Africa and then to Europe, it became an important agricultural good of the people.

The first sources about paper from hemp are found in 100% In China. A little later, the Vikings brought hemp ropes and seeds to Ireland and began to process hemp. Around 900 AD, there are also indications that Arabs were processing hemp.

By the middle of the sixteenth century King Henry imposed fines on peasants who did not cultivate hemp for industrial use. The numerous application possibilities in the further processing spread worldwide, and soon Hemp was used as medicinal plant and for the industrial further processing in almost all cultures. Medical marijuana has been described by doctors in France, Portugal, China, Greece and the UK. In the middle of the 18th century, cannabis was officially conducted at the New England Medical Dispensatory.

The 19th century was a boom period for the medical and industrial use of hemp in the USA. Plantations in Mississippi, Georgia, California, South Carolina, Nebraska, New York and Kentucky. Throughout the century, hemp was known worldwide as a pharmaceutical product, and many doctors used the plant's properties for their patients. Cannabis was widely available in pharmacies and an accepted part of medicine.

The wide spread of the plant for medical, spiritual and industrial applications ultimately led to the beginning of prohibition in the early 20th century. It took its start in the USA, but the ban movement began a worldwide triumph. Marijuana was declared one of the "most dangerous" drugs at all and state propaganda against cannabis took immense proportions.

This does not mean that the use of cannabis has been discontinued, but it has only been reduced. Despite the prohibition, cannabis was used as a pleasure as well as a medical plant. The benefits of hemp were not suddenly forgotten by mankind, even when it was said that the plant was dangerous.

The recent history of hemp suggests an end to prohibition. It seems like a slow reconsideration of the cultural history of the herb as a crop. In hindsight it seems almost bold to assume that the ban could be successful. Marijuana was already used thousands of years before the concept of prohibition. The application possibilities were so deeply rooted in human culture that the probability of actually ending cannabis use was always low.

For over 10,000 years, marijuana has changed people's awareness. It was part of spiritual awakenings and medical advances as well as a raw material for the industry. It can be viewed with some justification as a kind of engine for the developmental history of mankind, the plant contributed to the fact that the world is today as it is.
