A Future With Cannabis Cafes

Colorado is currently experimenting with not only the first licensed cannabis social club in the United States, but it's the first in the world.

California is also looking to welcome cannabis lounges too, as well as Oregon, and other areas. How long might it be before you see a cannabis cafe in your very own neighborhood? If you're in Colorado, California, Washington, or Alaska, then it could be very soon.

The country's first cannabis lounge, located in Denver, is called The Coffee Joint and there's a small entrance fee if you plan to enter the cafe to consume cannabis. The cafe doesn't directly sell cannabis, though a dispensary is nearby.

In 2018, areas in California also embraced cannabis lounges that were expected to start business in the new year. This change includes cannabis cafes, lounges, and restaurants. Oregon isn't far behind, and the same change is being sought in Alaska too.

Many areas in the United States have legalized cannabis but the rules are restrictive still, leaving people with little option when they're banned from smoking it in public.

Most hotels also ban smoking, as well as many apartments etc, so even though people can consume in their private residence only, they still might not be able to do so because of building restrictions.

For those who use cannabis and who might want to interact with and meet others who also use the plant, it can be difficult, but cannabis lounges help to make that possible as well as dispensaries and they provide a safe and comfortable space that allows people to medicate, helping the community in a variety of ways.

We've already got safe injection sites in regions like Europe and Canada, and they've also been considered in the United states, which provide a venue for addicts to consume safely, there are also many bars for people to get drunk at, and countless restaurants for people to indulge in other "drugs," so why not cannabis lounges? Such a future would be a drastic transformation of scenery from a past when cages were filled and lives ruined over the peaceful consumption of cannabis.

Although you can still find many people today who are still having violence initiated against them over cannabis in the U.S., and elsewhere, at least there has been a move toward creating an environment where people feel as if they can consume and medicate in peace. It's only unfortunate that it couldn't have been organized with a voluntary approach and that there's still many restrictions and a great deal of coercion involved.

Strange they allow smoking and charge a cover fee but don’t actually sell it. Maybe they are just getting set up so they can dispense when the law permits?

We are seeing the same transition in Canada a few steps behind with dispensaries slowly opening.

Awesome to see the stigma reducing and the culture changing.

they're attached directly to the dispensary and it's free entry for dispensary customers

as long as your members pay a minimum monthly fee of $5 you can have a private cannabis smoking club in canada.

Wow, this is so cool!

I like smoking grass my friend, but not sure if I could get high in some cafe. Lol. #SteemOnDude

what if that cafe had pizza and coffee though? 😂

Dean Ween is recreating his man cave and a couple other super chill low key rooms that make you feel like you're in a friend's basement, and he's gonna open that up with the same principals as the club above. I think it's gonna be rad.

Nice to see that they’re finally starting to let it happen!

I remember a few years ago Grassroots California had their “The Break Room” in Denver raided and eventually shut down. Just a couple months after I went for a visit!

In Canada its very easy to make a private cannabis social club, but a public one that is different story. Happy to see progress.
