On Sunday, Gov. Ralph Northam in Virgina signed new bills into law and it effectively pushed forward the move to decriminalize marijuana possession to a certain extent in the region.

Because of the new changes, now in the region simple possession of marijuana has been decriminalized. They will also be looking into the potential of legalization and what that might mean for the region, with a newly formed research group to investigate that topic. But understanding such basic liberty shouldn't require a workgroup to investigate.

Now in Virginia, being found in possession of cannabis, if under a certain amount, it would come with a civil penalty of about $25. Sales of the goods are still prohibited though. You won't find new cannabis dispensaries or businesses opening up anytime soon there.

Past polls have shown widespread support for cannabis freedom in Virginia.

At least 60 percent or more have been shown to be in support of embracing 'recreational cannabis' for sale and consumption etc, around the region.

It is about time that they started considering the idea that it might be wrong to cage people over plants. It has never done any good for the community aside from ruin lives and make living more difficult and painful for many.

Great news from VA. Too many states want the easy money by continuing to criminalize cannabis as we're 'easy' criminals to prosecute.

In South African cannabis has been completely legalized and you are allowed to have on you a certain amount at any given time without arrest.
We are allowed to use cannabis in the comfort of our homes and certain places such as coffee shops or beer gardens.
It is so much better now that you don't have to worry about going to prison for something that actually has health benefits.
The government is also affected positively as our police force doesn't have to process thousands of unnecessary arrests and as soon as a sale system comes on board the tax generated will be phenomenal.
