New Cannabis Friendly Gym Opening Soon In San Francisco

A new gym in California is looking to cater to individuals in the market, who are are looking for a place where they can mix their love of cannabis with their love of working out.

The new gym, Power Plant Fitness, is said to be the first of its kind in the country. And the plan is for it to have a cannabis consumption room on the premises and it will also have trainers there who will be able to provide advice when it comes to working out after consuming the plant.

Cannabis has been a part of athletic lifestyles for many years and there are no doubt many customers out there in the market who would find the idea appealing that they could go to a place that would allow them the freedom to smoke and workout.

Interestingly, previous research that was published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence, in this area has indicated that working out might actually enhance the effects of THC.

It's suggested that mixing cannabis with working out might be able to provide benefits in multiple ways. One is by enhancing focus, and the other is recovery. The popularity of mixing the two together has led to a number of products being created in the market for it; with things like hemp protein powders, CBD muscle cream, cannabis protein bites, or THC-infused Epsom salts.

The gym, Power Plant Fitness, is going to be looking at educating its customers on how much cannabis they should take, when they should take it, how it might interact with their workout, and so on. The gym is expected to open in May of this year and membership will be about $150 - $170.

The members of the gym will either be able to bring their own cannabis or they will be able to purchase it from an on-site dispensary at the gym in supplement form.

This gym will help to not only meet the needs of many in the area, but it will also help to deteriorate stereotypes about cannabis smokers; that they are unproductive, lazy, or nonathletic. After all, thanks to cannabis-smoking Olympians like Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt, we should know better by now than to judge.

Perhaps it will only be a matter of time before more gyms follow suit.

It's easy to laugh at the headline... I myself do not partake, even though it is legal here in Oregon, but my brother does amazing as my Spikeball partner when he is totally baked. We call it his PED's, lol.
Ok so maybe I do try it every once and a while.

lol hey if it gave you a laugh i'm glad! :)

Hot Yoga will now be Hot Box Yoga.

Great post @doitvoluntarily. I have commented on a few threads where applicable. It's a good topic for discussion.

when you think you know what is best for everyone else on the planet lol

I've tried working out with weed in my system but for me it decreases muscle output and strength. It may have helped with cardio workouts though as when i used to run a few miles i noticed benfits from the bronchiodialation (spelling?) it seemed to have caused. Any drugs except testosterone boosters seemed to decrease strength but most increased cardio. May just be me, then again cannabis is said to signifigantly raise melatonin, the sleep tryptamine, which probably has to do with the lack of strength output. It also is said to block gaba to increase dopamine and everyone should know that gaba is a main component for building muscles. So all in all cardio yes, strength no, but that may be my personal chemistry, so to each their own :)

that's interesting! probably why a lot of others also choose to go for it after their muscle workouts for repair, rather than beforehand. thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts on this! :)

I did have another thought on this as well. If weed blocks gaba but raises dopamine, and dopamine raises human growth hormone, then maybe this is why after workout is better as well, like you said, more for repair usage, but then again most studies i've read seem to say that weed decreases human growth hormone so i'm not positive on that one but it may make some sense possibly depending on if human growth hormone is already elevated from the workout. It may give a boost to an already working system instead of a stagnant one.

Interesting topic for sure. I think that the plant profile of the strain being used is going to matter immensely on the issue of muscle strength, how the body regulates blood sugar, hydration levels and tissue repair through regulating sleeping patterns.
I have found that strains with high amounts of THC, can drop my blood sugar rapidly if I eat too high a dose and medicate beyond my personal "sweet-spot". (This can be easily done by accident with edibles and it's something I try to avoid.) What generally happens is that I start to feel very weak, shaky, very thirsty and nauseated. As soon as I start to hydrate myself and eat, these symptoms dissipate. I would try using a strain with a blend of CBD and THC during the exercise program (cardio + weights) with a higher amount of CBD than THC. 4 hours post work-out, I would switch to THC for tissue repair. Stain selection matters and I see the future of cannabis production getting very specific. For example, I think specific strains will be grown for very specific applications, like building muscle tissue. Right now, it's a guessing game through personal trial and error. Just my 2 cents on the topic. :)

That would make sense as CBD is different and more narcotic or dopey like than THC, with it seeming to reduce anxiety rather than causing it. Benzos decrease anxiety and up gaba output and i believe increase human growth hormone as well, they help put on muscle, so it would make sense that CBD may raise gaba and hgh rather than lower it as opposed to THC. THC causes anxiety by reducing gaba and uping dopamine. Sugar cuts off hgh production to a large degree though, so maybe wait for the THC introduction for a half hour after workout to allow the hgh to repair as much as possible with the CBD gaba like assistance. THC is known to help with metabolism as well by allowing the body to utilize what it consumes, like sugar, in a healthier or quicker more useful way, thus why most stoners are skinnny, due to the increase in metabolism. This would assist with the sugar spike by allowing for quicker utilization which may also increase hgh rebound effect after consumption. Hmmm, seems like there may be a working system here with miss mary. Great point!

I agree with most of what you have shared @thechurch and can add that:
CBD is not physchoactive and that CBN develops when hydrogen oxidizes from THCA over time. CBN is what produces a really good, deep sleep and works synergistically with THC, once both are decarbed from their raw form. I think this is one of the biggest benefits that cannabis offers...it lets people get into and stay in low sleep state longer. This lets the body heal and repair itself. So whether that's from illness or work-out strain, repair will happen efficiently if people can achieve good quality sleep. :)

Awesome idea for in Holland hehe . Time for global legalization !

Last thing we need in this world is high people using machines and equipment.

Last thing we need in this world is people who tell other people what they can or cannot do

LOL, funny :D

did you even read the post? lol Like they said, there will be supervision :)

There's also supervision for teens that are learning to drive.
That don't make it any less dangerous to your health.

LOL it is their freedom and their choice to do what they want with their body, if they want to smoke a joint and workout then that's up to them. If you want something to sit there and be worried about, maybe direct your energy toward worrying about alcohol or prescription drugs? but really... why worry at all? :)

surely the world won't descend into chaos because a gym is affording grown adults a little bit more freedom. . .

Using anything that can impair your judgement or change how your mind judges things is not only stupid its irresponsible. Unless its just some weak bud now if its pick as you wish then there is a prob there. It's not recommended to lift or work out under any influence do to the lack of pain people tend to feel while under the influence.

I'm not saying anyone is their boss they are free to do as they wish but it don't make it anyless stupid.

I know that the future of cannabis plant medicine is going to become even more specific in the future than it already is now. Cannabis is a super-food and when used properly, (meaning that we are selecting the right strain for the right application), there are only benefits and no risks beyond what risks are naturally present when anyone uses a piece of gym equipment, for example. A strain that contains a high % of CBD for example isn't going to impair cognitive function and will help to reduce inflammation in the body which will equate to faster tissue repair. Lots of people use prescription anti-inflammatory drugs to make it through training sessions, especially at the "Pro" level in many sports. These are very hard on the liver over time, where cannabis is not. Education is the key.

I can't do it all the time, but I do lift weights, do yoga, and do jiu jitsu with cannabis sometimes. It's a very unique experience.

I smoke sativas before my workout, sativa dominant hybrid after and my indicas at bedtimee =)
