The construction of facilities for the cultivation of therapeutic cannabis is still waiting in Kapuskasing. The much anticipated job creation project in the community has been delayed a few times since last year.

Toronto-based CannAssist was to begin construction of the facility last year on land next to the airport. This land was donated by the municipality in exchange for a stake in the company.

Previously, CannAssist had obtained authorization from Health Canada .

According to Kapuskasing Mayor Dave Plourde, construction has been postponed until spring this year, and now in the fall, according to the latest news from the company.

I think everyone in town can not wait to see the project. We are all waiting. On our part, we did everything in planning for the installation of water and sewer services. We put [money] in the budget. It only starts , says Dave Plourde.

According to the mayor, funding issues for this multi-million dollar project would cause delays.

He confirms that the company mentioned the possibility of building a larger than originally planned building.

The therapeutic cannabis company would create about 100 full-time jobs in Kapuskasing, a city of nearly 8,500 people.

A hundred jobs in Kapuskasing is big. It would be good , says Dave Plourde.

If the project does not happen, the land will become the property of the municipality, according to the mayor.
