How Much Do Marijuana Growers Get for the Pot They Grow?

It's not hard to find out how much, say, you'd pay for Buddha's Sister or Strawberry Diesel at a medical marijuana dispensary. But you practically need a crystal ball to find out what growers get for pot. As of March 18, 2018, according to a market monitoring company called New Leaf Data Services, the price for a pound of flower in Oregon was $1,106 (or about $8 an eighth), while a pound in Alaska cost $5,496.

Just how messed up is the market because pot hasn't been legalized at the Federal level? In these states where pot is legal, reporters have been able to estimate prices. These are for the middle of March 2018.

*Alaskan pot averages the previously mentioned $5,496 a pound.
*Vermont $3,089.
*New Hampshire $3,055.
*Connecticut $3,012.
*Illinois $2,843.
*New Mexico $2,755.
*Rhode Island $2,410.
*Massachusetts $2,305.
*Nevada $2,280.
*Washington, D.C. $2,255.
*Arizona $2,015.
*Maine $1,885.
*Michigan $1,775.
*California $1,250.
*Oregon $1,106.
*Colorado $1,005.
*Washington $980.

When you take into consideration how much marijuana each state produces, the average price of marijuana flower in the US was $1367 a pound. Of courses, national averages don't mean a lot because you can't legally and without risk transport cannabis from state to state. 95% of pot was sold at a price of over $668 a pound. The average transaction is about 7 pounds, but the average "deal" to produce long-term was 70 pounds. There's about a 10% bump in the price for promised delivery one month out. 39% of pot is grown in greenhouses, 30% outdoors, and 30% indoors.

All of these figures are for LEGAL pot. And they don't take into account the fact that different strains sell for different prices. Unlicensed pot sells for a lot less, about half as much. But you don't have to rely on the rumor mill to have some idea of what your pot is worth.

Of course, if you are a professional pot grower, you know all of this way better than I do. But if you're getting started, or you're thinking about becoming a grower, you might find it all pretty interesting.
