"PGR cannabis refers to cannabis that has been grown with plant growth regulators (PGR). Using these regulators helps to control the growth of plants, including things like when the fruits ripen, and the width and shape of the plant’s roots, leaves and stems. In the case of cannabis, PGRs are used to fatten up buds to increase both weight and density, and as a result inflate the price to deceive unwitting consumers."

"with the use of PGRs, growers can make an extra effort to ensure buds are compact, even if genetic and environmental factors are against them. This desire for dense, tightly formed buds, which gives cannabis a desirable look and feel is one factor driving the use of PGRs in the Cannabis world."

"Few people buying cannabis at a dispensary put much thought into the plant growth regulators that may be present in their product. While growers and producers are intimately acquainted with them, there aren’t many on the consumer end that even know what a plant growth regulator (PGR) is, or their role in a flower’s growth cycle. However, a basic knowledge of PGRs is important for anyone who enjoys weed, as there may be potential health risks involved in consuming PGRs in marijuana"

"In the ever-competitive cannabis market, growers are vying for the trust and brand loyalty of millions of cannabis consumers who now expect a top-shelf product at wholesale prices every time they come to buy. Just as professional athletes dope-up to gain a competitive edge in their respective market, cannabis growers for the past twenty-five years have steadily increased their use of Plant Growth Regulators, or PGR’s, to essentially ensure bolstered flower harvests."

"PGR weed is increasingly becoming common in many states as more marijuana growers are now adopting chemical methods to improve their yields. If you are an experienced stoner, you can tell the difference between the PGR weed and non-PGR weed. This is not a new topic as it is discussed in different forums.
Have you seen marijuana buds covered by ugly brown hairs? Do they have scents that are familiar to you, or do they smell something else? If you have come across such marijuana buds, then you might have been smoking PGR weed."

"Were your buds treated with Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs)? If the buds you hold in your hand are extremely dense, consist of brown hairs, and have little in the way of discernible scent, there is a very good chance that your marijuana has been exposed to PGRs."

"There are two types of known PGR’s, naturally derived and chemically derived. Chemically derived hormones aim to either interfere with synthesis and hormone breakdown or mimic pre-existing hormones. This interference often encourages denser growth and higher yields. Many growers claim that PGR’s help produce cannabis that grows “healthier” and has a higher resistance to disease. However, these unnatural attributes come with a heavy cost.
Chemically-derived PGRs are known to cause cancer, infertility, poison the liver and are classified as environmental pollutants. In the late 1980’s the Environmental Protection Agency banned the use of several PGRs because it was estimated that the exposure to these PGR’s could result in a cancer risk 240 times greater than considered acceptable by E.P.A. It is important to note that these PGRs were made illegal in the food industry, yet the cannabis industry had flown under the radar when it comes to illegal use of PGR’s."

So much "legalized" cannabis is full of PGRs. I find the best way to avoid them is to grow your own, or to know your grower and be certain they never use any products, especially PGRs.
