Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir

Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir (born March 7, 1949 - death: 14 December 1971), a martyr freedom fighter participating in the liberation war of Bangladesh. He was awarded Birshreshtha title for his outstanding heroism in the war.

Birth and Education

Mohiuddin Jahangir was born on 7 March 1949 in Rahimganj village under Babuganj thana of Barisal. His father's name was Abdul Motaleb Hawladar. He passed matriculation in 1964 and after passing the ISC in 1966, he tried to join the Air Force, but failed due to the inconvenience of the eyes. In 1967 he joined the Dhaka University as a cadet at the Pakistan Military Academy. On June 2, 1968, he received the commission of Engineers Corre.Role in the War of Liberation

During the war of independence in 1971, he was working in the engineer battalion of 173 in Pakistan. He ran out of Pakistan's remote area for the independence of Pakistan. However, he escaped with three more officers stuck in Pakistan on July 3, and later joined the commander of sub-sector Sector Sector 7 of the Mukti Bahini in Mehedpur of Maldah district of West Bengal. He fought under Sector Commander Major Nazmul Haque. Due to his outstanding achievement in different walks of life, he was given the responsibility of taking control of Chapainawabganj city of Rajshahi. Sector commander ANM for the capture of the city. Mohiuddin Jahangir entered Bangladesh with 50 freedom fighters on December 10, 1971 and took position in Barghariya on the west side of Chapainawabganj. On December 11, there was an intention to shell out the artillery of the Indian army. But that did not happen. On the next two days, on 12th and 13th December, many times the contact with the Indian force was in vain because of Mohiuddin Jahangir. Later, he decided that he would attack the enemy positions without the help of Indian forces. And he did that. He was martyred by ensuring victory in the post-independence war. Captain Jahangir was buried in the historic Sonaza Mosque in Chapainawabganj district.

The way martyr becomes

On December 10, Captain Jahangir, Lieutenant Kaum, Lieutenant Awal and 50 freedom fighters took the position of Barghariya in the west of Chapainawabganj. On December 14, only 20 freedom fighters crossed the Mahananda River from the Rehchar area by taking 3/4 country boats from the Baghariya area. After crossing the river, one enemy from each side of the north went ahead south with occupying positions. He planned to attack in such a way that the enemies could not conceive from the south when the enemy drove from the north. When it was time to advance, it was almost sure that the disaster occurred. Suddenly, 8/10 soldiers from East Pakistan Civil Armed Forces ran to the char area on the dam. Then started the continuous shooting of the Pakistan army. Captain Jahangir proceeded without looking after the life. At the same time an enemy bullet hit Jahangir's forehead. He was martyred.

Awards and honors

For his outstanding contribution in the War of Liberation, Birshrestha Medal, the highest military medal of Bangladesh, was awarded to Mohiuddin Jahangir. As the name of his village of Barisal is called his grandfather, his name changed to 'Agarpur' and 'Mohiuddin Jahangir Union' was changed to the families and villagers. Barishal Zilla Parishad, a government project, is constructing 40 percent of the land donated by Birshreshtha's family at the cost of 49 lakh rupees.
