I was in a car crash today

Nobody was hurt. The accident happened in the city at a low speed. I was about to change lanes in order to make a turn when a car came from behind. I should have looked more carefully. My fault. The left front corner of my car hit the door of the car coming from behind. My car had to be towed to the shop. The front suspension and the body on the left were badly damaged. If the frame of the car was bent, the car will have to be scrapped. If not, there is hope. A superficial look seemed to indicate that the front wheel on the left and the suspension bore the brunt of the impact.

I already notified my insurance company. The repair costs will be assessed at the shop after which an expert at the insurance company will decide whether or not the car will be repaired or scrapped. My car insurance will cover the damage minus excess (deductible for you American English speakers). My compulsory traffic insurance will cover the damage caused to the other car (only the door in all likelihood). My car insurance will cover the entire cost of a replacement car (excluding fuel) for as long as my car remains at the shop.

This accident will set me back €170 directly. Indirect costs may include possible time and money spent searching for a new car. I like our car and I hope the damage will not be too expensive to repair and that no hidden defects will remain. Cryptocurrencies took a nosedive, too. Bitcoin sunk to about €9,000 until it bounced back to about €12,500. One bitcoin is worth about €11,600 as I'm writing this. What a day and it's not even over yet!

What I'm very happy about is that nobody was hurt. That's the most important thing. The other guy only lost about 15 minutes of his time. He owns a car repair shop and will fix the door himself after receiving the insurance money. I will engage in introspection now and analyze every factor leading to the accident and try and eliminate them from my driving habits.

Everyone is ok so that is the important part of it. And we all make mistakes, that is part of life. Consider the weather, it is cold, and so are you and your person etc.

People don't work 100% in the winter it seems.

I think this was just one of those things that happen once in a blue moon. The last time I caused an accident like this (nobody was hurt) was almost 25 years ago. I've had a driving licence for over 26 years.

Well that is good to hear. We can forget things when we do tasks over and over again. As in did I just look or was that a minute or 20 seconds ago... that kind of thing.

On another note, I have had Police and others cause accidents on the roads.... another story. It ends as being outside the domain of law enforcement for USA's police.

For me I have avoided lots of them. It seems they (many) were not accidents in the making but what I now call "Intentionals".

Don't assume that you are at fault either... since people do such things to others.

Oh. It's really bad news. I wish be cure quickly.

Everyone is completely ok. The property damage is worth thousands of euros, maybe even well in excess of €10,000, which will be paid for by my insurance company. I will lose time and a lot less money in the near future and, of course, lose insurance bonus money for the next couple of years. The other guy lost 15 minutes but he will fix the door himself as he owns car repair shop. Effectively, my insurance company will pay him to fix his own car. He will be able to pocket the markup.
