At 4 pm on the 27th, Hyundai Motor Company unveiled its first high-performance SUV, the Kona N. The Kona N has the practicality of an SUV, and at the same time has an agile movement reminiscent of a hot hatch. Therefore, it will broaden the options for drivers pursuing high-performance models. In particular, it is the newest N model and features differentiated specifications from existing models to enhance performance and marketability.

Hyundai Kona N is 2 models. A 2-liter gasoline turbo engine and an 8-speed wet DCT. It has the same configuration as the existing N brand’s Veloster N. But it has improved performance and durability at the same time by improving the shape and material of the turbine and cylinder block. Kona N’s 2-liter gasoline turbo engine has a maximum output of 280 horsepower and a maximum torque of 40 kg.m. It increases the power and horsepower of Veloster N by 5 and 4 kg. In addition, the flat power characteristic, which showed the highest output at 6,000rpm and the highest output from 5,500rpm, was applied for the first time by Hyundai Motor Company.
Powered output. Fastest acceleration performance
The Kona N is the only SUV model among the Hyundai N brands. Basically, SUVs have lower athletic performance than sedans and hatchbacks, and have a heavier empty vehicle weight. However, the Kona N boasts the fastest acceleration performance ever. When you use NGS, which increases the power by temporarily increasing the boost pressure at the higher power, the maximum power rises to 290 horsepower. Based on this, the Kona N takes 5.5 seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h. This is 0.6 seconds faster than the Veloster N 6-speed manual transmission model takes 6.1 seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h. Also, 0.1 seconds faster than the 5.6 seconds of the 8-speed DCT model.
N-dedicated graphical interface. HUD applied for the first time in N model
The overall layout of the 10.25-inch instrument cluster and infotainment display applied to the Kona N is similar to that of the regular Kona model. It features an N-dedicated graphic interface to further enhance the driving fun. For the first time, a one-circle design with a large RPM gauge in the center and a speedometer, gear level, and shift indicator display was applied. It is also the first of the N brand models which has a head-up display. The head-up display also has an N-dedicated graphic interface, helping the driver to check various information without losing concentration during high-speed driving.
