Back in the year 2010 I was a bit of a reckless individual. I enjoyed to drink, and I partied way too much. I drank with the intent of getting drunk almost every night. I was on a very self destructive path to say the least.
At the time I was working as a bank teller. And that paticular night I was out celebrating, one of my co-workers who got a promotion. I was supposed to get a ride home with my then girlfriend at the time. Unfortunately we got into fight and I ended up getting behind the wheel. I was too stupid and drunk to even call a cab home and this was all before uber, though if I didn't call a cab who knows if I would have been wise enough to even get an uber.
Along the way home me and my now ex girlfriend got into a fight on the phone. So at this point I'm extremely intoxicated and I'm screaming and yelling on the phone, and its about one o clock in the morning so its pitch black outside. Then upon realizing how drunk and unsafe I am, I called my friend Joey thinking he will come pick me up, after all I've picked him up when he was too drunk to drive several times. This is my final memory of that night..
At some point I must have turned myself around to head to my ex's house because the police said they found my car heading out of town rather than go into it. The officers and firefighters told my father that I was going about 70 to 80 miles an hour, they must have determined this by my tiremarks on the ground I assume, ot maybe just because of how severe the impact sight looked. What happened was I ended up colliding into a fire hydrant head on flipping my car. The roof of my car caved in and crushed three vertebrae in my neck, C5 C6 and C7. I tried to brace myself for impact with my right hand, but unfortunately it went flying through my sun roof and tore apart all the skin and completely ripped about ten tendons.
At this point I'm out cold, the officers said to my father that I was still conscious and talking when the arrived on scene but I don't remember it at all. Actually the officer said the first thing I said to him was me stating my name then begging him not to tell my father lol needless to say I couldn't comprehend the severity of my accident. So now I'm in the hospital and the Dr's put me in a medically induced comma so that they could oppererate. My neck alone took two days of operations a total around 15 hours of surgery then a third day to work on my hand. Its sort of bizarre, before I was even awake or before anyone had told me I broke my neck. I was having these dreams where I couldn't move my body. One of them I remember clearly. I was tied down in a wheelbarrow and could only move my arms. The breain must have been trying to tell me that the signals werent going through and that was the only way it comprehended. And if what I experienced is anything like what a real coma patient goes through I would tell people not to give up on them, because I had dreams about certain family members just from hearing thier voices in the room.
Anyways at this time things were getting worse. One of the nurses went to go incubate me with a feeding tube but instead filled my lungs with fluid by mistake. Which instantly gave me pneumonia. Then my body started to fail... The hospital told my family I have about 72 hours to live. Then proceded to turn off all the alarms on the machines in my room. Fortunately I have an aunt who, works with several hospitals making sure that there arent any hipa violatations. She got a meeting put together with Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NY, one of the best hospitals in my area.
They denied my case..
Check back next week when I finish writing out my memories
also if anyone would like to share some steem I'm trying to save for some medical equipment including an exoskelton and a handicap van. Or atthe very least I can put it towards my chiropractor or massage sessions. Thank you
