Dreams, new adventures and carbon footprints

in carbonfootprint •  7 years ago  (edited)

My love doesn't really understand me, although I doubt anyone truly does. But we love each other. And we dare to dream. For that purpose, we are buying a little farm with some pastureland attached to it. It will be a new home, both for us and for these two lovely boys.

Begging? Who's begging? Not us!

They live at my Mum's house now, on a farm that is getting a bit big for her--a bit too much to handle. Which is one reason for us to buy this little farm. The other?

I miss them so... I don't get to visit them nearly enough, between work and my dogs and my own house.

There is one more plus side to the farm we're buying.

There is a big yard, with lots of room for our four dogs. They'll have enough space to run and play as much as they want.

With a new home for our large, mostly furry family, will come new dreams. I dream of being kind to our planet. I also dream of a large walk in closet full of shoes, but that will be a matter for another post.

Are you curious yet about this wondrous dream-filled farm? Well, here it is.

It dates from 1966 and has a gorgeous vintagey kitchen that I adore. Sadly, I'm freakishly tall so we need to change it. Otherwise I'll break my back trying to to dishes. Also present: an equally gorgeous fireplace that I also adore.

A fifty year old house is lovely and full of character. This is true. But it also needs a lot of work. But we're ready for that. We can't wait to start. We'll have each other, and we'll have our House of Dreams to look forward to. What more could a person need?

How about some gorgeous pasture for the horses?

There is a catch, though. Our new home is quite a distance from my job. And I'm not kidding when I say I love my job.

But do I love it enough to burn off 39 km worth of traffic jams by commuting in my car? No, I do not. My job is not worth more to me than a carbon footprint the size of the city of Brussels.

So how do I commute? 39 km on a bicycle? It can be done. 39 km on an E-bike? Count me in!

This, my friends, is where, hopefully, you guys come in. With your help, I might be able to make a start on a piggy bank dedicated to an E-bike.

So thank you all, so very much for reading this. I hope to keep you posted on our progress as soon as we can begin working on this amazing project and I hope to read lots more from all of you, too.

Hugs
