SERAMBINEWS.COM, JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics affirmed that it will not extend the pre-paid registration period using the Identity Card (KTP) and Family Card (KK).
When the pre-paid registration period ends and the mobile service users have not registered their card, the number will be removed from the telecommunication operator's own system in stages.
"No, this will not be extended, why should we extend it long? We must focus on the quality of the customers, not the number of customers, but the customers are sleeping (non-active).) Actually the loss is all in the industry," said Minister of Communications and Informatics (Menkominfo) Rudiantara talked in his office on Thursday (15/2/2018).
Chief RA, as the familiar greeting, explained that at this time is not known clearly the number of cellular subscribers in Indonesia.
The reason is because of the large number of pre-paid users who only use the SIM card in a short time and throw it away.
While telecom operators still record the SIM card in their system.
The situation is partly due to an inter-operator price war.
So that certain user segments can easily switch numbers following the cheapest promos.
For operators, this type of customer is a burden.
Because the company charged the cost to print the SIM card and maintain it in the network, while the number is inactive and not generate revenue.
Now no one knows (the correct number of customers). That's all claim. If you talk in the media 350 million total, it (including) there is a sim card that becomes cost for the oeprator because it occupies the system, "explained Chief RA.
"The industry is also a loss, so the focus is on the quality of customers, so that people do not use and then discard (SIM card)," he added.
If the SIM card registration is successful, then the operator can save the production cost of new starter pack, then the existing funds can be transferred for the development of network quality.
"This will prove the quality of customers, so that the industry is healthy," he concluded.
Previously, SIM card registration was feared could have an impact on operator revenue from customers.
The reason is the government's decisive action to turn off unregistered numbers that potentially reduce the number of subscribers, regardless of whether they are active or inactive.
Kemenkominfo itself has announced that a total of more than 200 million subscribers are re-registered using the resident registration number (NIK) on the Citizen Identification Card and Family Card number.
Customers who until February 28, 2018 have not registered their phone number, will be subject to a gradual blocking of phone service, SMS, until finally the number is turned off.
The blocking started in March 2018 and is expected to be completely completed by May 2018.
