Emurgo, a blockchain startup incubator based out of Japan, announced today that it would be integrating Cardano’s ADA currency into Metaps Plus.
Metaps Plus is one of the largest payments platforms in South Korea with ’10 million mobile to offline transactions’. The partnership involves integrating the ADA tokens into the platform which delivers ’10 million mobile to offline transactions per year over 40000 offline stores’. This adoption will occur around Q3 2018, according to the official press release by EMURGO.
The CEO of EMURGO said:
“Our partnership with Metaps plus will allow Ada to expand more rapidly and be recognized eventually as a new way for payment settlement in the Korean market.”
The tokens offered by Cardano will be used in over 33,000 offline franchise stores and promotions, partnering with named franchises who are current Metaps Plus partners.
Micheal Parsons, the Chairman of Cardano Foundation said that:
“The adoption of Cardano’s Ada cryptocurrency token by Metaps Plus means immediate digital payments or settlements, with little to no fraud, can soon take place in Korea, a country that has a pioneering history of innovation and early adoption of new technologies”
The adoption of ADA by one of South Korea’s mobile marketing and payments giants signifies adoption on a larger scale. It signifies the first Asian cryptocurrency integration into mobile payment platform. One of EMURGO’s main goals is to bring about adoption among partners who wish to utilize the blockchain upon which Cardano is built in mainstream companies and industries.
Charles Hoskinson, the CEO of IOHK, has stated that South Korea is a country with a ‘passionate Cardano and cryptocurrency exchange’. Therefore, this partnership signals the entry of Cardano into a market where it is already popular, albeit at the grassroots level, propelling adoption rates sky-high with Metaps Plus’ 10 million mobile to offline transactions.
