GUS ON THE BANQUET TABLE

I did not expect to a post so soon, but we had an unusual occurrence with Gus. We have a motion detector light on our side deck. It has become the banquet doorbell for Gus. When the light comes on early in the morning, it’s probably Gus. We get out of bed and look out the blinds and there is Gus in one of two places. On the railing or standing at the door. This morning at 5am the light came on and as expected Gus was on the railing waiting, but the normal routine was broken. Because it was cold we didn’t take the food to the dinner table. We placed it by the door. Gus did not leave his perch. Maybe he wanted his food on the dinner table, I thought. I got dressed, Gus still waiting on the railing. I picked up his food plate, showed him the food and took it to his table. He did not budge from the railing. He was more nervous than usual. Was there danger about? I brought the meal back to show him again, but he was not moving. I placed it on the railing in front of him he sniffed it and turned to walk down the railing. He jumped went across the back deck and out of sight. Something wasn’t right. This was not his regular routine.

5:45am the light is on again. It was Gus on the railing. I dressed again and out the door. I thought it could be the food we gave him. The first plate was food our indoor cats rejected. I spoil them. So I fetched the normal fare we give him and offered it to him. He turned his nose up at it and repeated his trek across the deck. This time I followed. He went down the steps and under the deck. I retrieved the food and put it under the deck where he entered. Later, unable to sleep for concern I went out to see if he had eaten his breakfast. He had not touched it. So far he has not returned. He wanted food or he would not have come two times. We are waiting.

8:40am Gus is back. He beat up one of the other feral cats that came for food, but still did not eating.
