I talk to people all the time who are baffled by the economic collapse of 2008 and the fact that the economy still hasn't rebounded. I don't care what the clowns on the news say, the economy hasn't come back and it won't. Automation has taken a large swath of jobs across the world and those jobs aren't coming back.
Guess what, neither the government, nor luck will change your financial future. This is something only you and hard work can do. If you've found yourself in this position, finding it hard to pay bills, not finding a job, take a step back and analyze your position. Are you in a dead or dying career field? Time for a change!
I've started a path of changing and improving my own career path through certifications. CompTIA A+ is the first of several and the first I'm pursuing. The economy is always changing, follow my lead and look into computer security, it's one of few career fields actually growing and having positions I filled every year in the US. This is also the fastest growing career field for foreigners coming to the US, because regardless of your accent, most people don't speak computer.
