Career Choices

So I’m a bit of an education junkie. I completed Year 12 in High School. I scored well and had so many options for University. I honestly could not decide on a career at age 18.
I had done some volunteer work with events, like being a retail assistant at the massive music festival Big Day Out and the camping festival The Great Escape.
I had so many interests like natural therapies including aromatherapy, massage, naturopathy and astrology.
I was also interested in saving wildlife. I became a volunteer with Sydney Wildlife rescuing and transporting wildlife.
I decided to go to TAFE and do a short course, because 3 years of University seemed like an eternity after just completing 12 years of education already. So I did Animal Care and Management Studies, a 6 month course.
After TAFE I thought that biodiversity and conservation was for me, so I started a University degree in Science. The units were not related to what I really wanted to be studying. They consisted of things like statistics and evolution. I passed my first semester, barely.
I tried to do a second semester via correspondence, but did not make it to the exams for two subjects and failed.
It was at this point I came to a cross road. My mother was planning to move to Tasmania, and I still had no real job or career idea, so I went with her.
In Tasmania I began studies at UTAS in Science. They wanted me to dissect animals, which I was morally opposed to and dropped out.
I went back to TAFE to study fitness. A real change in direction right. After not being able to get a job I found a course in events. So back I went to the event industry. I loved the events course but knew it would be a long road before making it in the industry.
I began volunteering at every event I could.
I then did the Hospitality short course to get me some bar work while I was volunteering and building a career in events.
In 2012 I moved out of Tasmania and came to Melbourne to study a Diploma of Events. I got roped into completing the Advanced Diploma as well. I graduated and had found my career path.
I worked in events casually for multiple agencies and employers for 4 years.
I am still in the industry. I started my own events business in 2014 and have run several workshops and events as the event manager.
In 2014 I wrote a book titled ‘The Real Events Industry: My Story’ all about my adventures.
I am still looking for more work in the events industry. I have yet to be employed on a permanent basis. I will run more events with my business and continue writing as well.FB_IMG_1497514273449.jpg

It's hard to get a job that you want. I have a degree to be in IT, but sadly I work in a call center.

I totally agree! The competition is so fierce! They want you to have 5 years experience when no one is willing to give you the experience!
