Introduction
I am an Engineer who works in Japanese Electronics Company. In this column, I would like to introduce the current job opportunity for these company such as SONY, Panasonic, Hitachi and so on.
Because I often get an inquiry about job opportunity from foreign company student and employees.
Since this column is a personal opinion, please collect the necessary information additional by yourself.
I feel that Japanese job market has some unique points.
For example, Many Japanese companies still tend to favor recruitment of new graduates.
Unless you don't have any special skill or experience, it is very difficult to find a position in famous Japanese Electronics company.
Current tendency
On the other hand, if you graduate famous University, it is not so difficult to get in these company (※).
Of course it is not determined by university alone. In the case of overseas universities, Reputation and the experience there is required to be recognized as equal or more.
※: Famous university means that Japanese Top level national university or Famous private university (such as Keio or Waseda) .
※The university name is not very important if you are paying excellent achievements as a first author in academic meetings or dissertations.
Since Japanese companies are supposed to train employees after joining the company, it seems to be more desirable to have characteristics and abilities that can be applied to job contents.
How about Ph.D Student?
People who graduate from the doctoral course are required more skill matching. They are often found by the managers at the academic conference.
Some students participate in an internship program through the Recruiting page. Participants of overseas students are increasing in recent years. Participating this kind of program gives them some advantages to get job opportunity.
If you would like to find a job opportunity in Japan, I recommend to regularly check recruitment web site.
Although it varies depending on the company, internship application is often opened around May to July.
Mid-Career opportunity
Matching beyond doctoral courses is required when joining mid-career. This seems to be the same as many global companies. These recruitments are posted regularly on mid-career recruitment pages.
If you have a connection, you may want to ask internal employees about opportunities to join. If your skills are bought high, they may occasionally make opportunities for you by interacting with your boss or Human Resources department.
Japanese companies will increasingly seek outstanding talent from abroad in order to secure diversity and further innovation. People who like Japanese products and cultures certainly want these companies looking for employment opportunities.
