Embracing Change In Your Career and General Life (Part B)
We have already established in Part A of this piece that the fear of future insecurity, is a key reason many people are scared of change. And pain, fear, and hard work are the key reasons why some people are so dedicated to resisting it.
Such persons are always the ones to come up with all the best-sounding reasons why a particular change that can take the department, the team, the organization, or enhance customers’ experience is not good for this reason or that purpose.
However, such individuals fail to realize that change is the only non variable in life. Little wonder great Greek philosopher “Heraclitus of Ephesus” (535 BC-475 BC) said and I quote “All is flux, nothing is stationary and no one could step twice into the same river”. Without further ado, let's run through five benefits of change.
Benefits of change
Improvements:
No matter how good you are maybe at what you do or the high social status you may have attained, there is always room/need for improvement. A typical example to drive home my point is a case study of popular footballer, Christiano Ronaldo. Rather than stay put at “Manchester United” where he won his first ever world best crown. He saw the need for improvement and knew the only way he could get better was for him to embrace change by moving on to another environment that presents a whole new challenge.
With this illustration, I doubt anyone would argue against the fact that - without change there will be no improvement.
Opportunities:
Adapting to change in the workplace or making changes in your individual life, open doors of opportunities. In most cases, change provides you with choices that bring about happiness and fulfillment.
Life Values:
When you are open to change, you start having different perspective about life and as a result it becomes a lot easier for you to re-evaluate your life. More often than not, this allows you to reinforce your life's values.
New beginnings:
Change is about closing and opening of different chapters in your life. Like the Ronaldo case mentioned above, he was able to close the Manchester United chapter of his life to open the Real Madrid's own because he embraced change.
Personal growth:
Embracing change affords you the opportunity to grow and learn new things. You develop new insights about different aspects of your life. Whether or not a change leads to targeted success, a lesson is always learnt.
So which is it going to be? Will you rather be scared of embracing change because you are comfortable where you are or you will embrace change and reap the benefits of being adventurous like Christiano Ronaldo?
I still remain my humble self @Terrywrites….
