Press Ecosocialismo y Aguas (Minea) / Inparques / Monagas, 13/09 / 2017.- The Alejandro de Humboldt Natural Monument is located within the El Guácharo National Park, Caripe municipality of the Monagas state. It was the first Natural Monument decreed in Venezuela, in 1949, and is under the protection and administration of the National Institute of Parks (Inparques), entity attached to the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism and Water (Minea).

The declaration of the monument obeyed the need to protect one of the most beautiful and complete caves in the world and the largest and most important in Venezuela: Cueva del Guacharo. It was named after the outstanding German naturalist Alejandro de Humboldt, who was the first to make known to the world the extraordinary characteristics of this geological formation.

This protected natural area has 855 hectares of mountainous terrain, which surrounds the cave and in whose spaces there are a large number of animal and plant species that help preserve the monument's ecosystem. It also offers a beautiful view and wonderful spaces for tourist enjoyment.
