carrion flower or kibut

in carrion •  7 years ago  (edited)

the giant carcass or giant suweg, Amorphophallus titanumBecc., is a plant of the endemic taro (Araceae) of Sumatra, Indonesia, known as the largest flowering plant (plural) in the world, although the records state that its relative, A. gigas ( also endemic from Sumatra) can produce flowers as high as 5m. Kibut is also called a carcass flower due to the flowers that smell like a rotting carcass, which is intended to invite the beetle and fly to pollinate the flowers.
