Tōge With Me #1 - Cendol Sunday Trip

in cars •  7 years ago  (edited)

Tōge With Me is a series of updates on my drive over some mountain range which features a lot of corners to be attacked and I usually join on weekends with a bunch of friends.

Sunday, Mac 4th 2018 is the day of our planned Tōge trip to travel more than 100KM for a cendol. Yes! You may think is a joke but actually is what we do sometimes for a morning drive and breakfast.

My day starts at 5.30AM waking over a sleeping city, get myself ready up and went out at 6.00AM to get my car refuel and tyre pressure check which to me is one of the essential things to do before a Tōge. After everything was done, I then drive to our meetup location at Batu 14 Hulu Langat.

Meet Up Point

Batu 14 Hulu Langat is a small township right behind Bukit Ampang where there a mini hill before reaching the town, and I usually warm up my car and myself at there, but need special cautious as there's no streetlight and road are sometimes filled up with rough patches and potholes.

Reached the meetup point at around 6.53AM and I'm the first one to arrive which is odd considering we said depart at 7 AM. It was a cold chilly morning with some morning mist while I was waiting for the others to arrive as time fly by, I saw some high powered car passing through the meetup location with their exhaust roaring through the silent morning.

@dxn, @jayjml, @markexodia and @yadea are some of the Steemians which join for the Tōge while others are non-Steemians. We have quite a number of car joining for the drive as we usually have around 3-5 cars compare to this Sunday's 10 cars at the start, another 1 joins us at the first stopping point. Some of our car consists are

  • Proton Iriz x4
  • Proton Satria Neo R3 x1
  • Toyota Vios NCP42 x1
  • Ford Fiesta x3
  • Honda City GM6 x1
  • Honda Jazz GK5 x1

Drive To Kuala Klawang

Surprisingly, there aren't many cyclists along our drive towards Kuala Klawang and we are greeted by a lot of morning mist from the beginning of the journey. Our drive is lead by our Steemians, @dxn which he drives like super fast or it's just me driving slower as it's been more than a month I haven't tōge 😅 after I went travel to Taiwan. I was then followed by @markexodia, we called him Supreme leader in our group and saw a few Lotus while on the way here as well (check out the video below)

Video of The Whole Trip (23 minutes)

As I'm driving which means not much photo was taken during the drive, the only available footage was the video that my car dashcam (Viofo A119) has recorded and I've made it to a short-medium (<30 minutes) video of the entire journey (around 3 hours). Our journey took us around 45-60 minutes to reach our first stop for breakfast at Titi, Jelebu and our usual breakfast mamak didn't open that time.

While we wait for another member to join us at the first stopping point, we all just chill, chatting, take photos of our car and look for nearby mamak which opens for our breakfast gathering. Cloud started to dispersed slowly warming mother earth while the chilly morning is still available during our waiting.

@markexodia went out to scout out a nearby mamak which was open for breakfast, we then convoy towards there as I'm hungry already and yea I forgot to take pictures of my breakfast again 😅. Soon another member who was late joined us for breakfast which is just in time.

Drive to Jeram Toi

After our breakfast which was still early as the Haji Shariff Cendol only opens at 10.30AM, we then went to visit Jeram Toi Waterfall which is just another 20-30 minutes for some photo shooting, relax to pass some times and a bit of hooning test cornering at the nearby car park area.

This was my first time here as well because I didn't join in the last tōge that they organized due to my busy schedule. The huge car park area that I mention is connected by an upward spiral hairpin turn which is what most of us like to try out the limit of our car's cornering abilities but we do it under extra cautious as well to avoid any bad things happened.

Drive to Seremban

After all the action and fun, it's time to head out to Seremban which took us around 40 minutes to reach from Jeram Toi as there's a bit of misrouting and detour on the way and waiting for other members who drive a bit chilling over the village area.

I took the opportunity to take some more photos while we were waiting by the roadside and little did I know that there's a Honda Civic Type R FK8 drive pass us after few minutes of us stopping by, followed by Subaru STi, Megane RS and BMW M4 (according to my friend). Unfortunately, they appeared out of the sudden and I wasn't able to react in time to record them but my dashcam was on so it somewhat captured them passing us by.

Check It Out (22:10)

After the other member caught up to us, it's time to continue our journey and in a blink of an eye, we finally reach our destination at Haji Shariff Cendol by before 11.00AM. It's been a nice drive all along, nothing bad happen throughout the journey and everyone is enjoying their cendol 😆.

Goodbye All 👋🏻

Ending our journey with an enjoyable drive up the mountain range and a satisfied tummy, it's time to call it a day and get back to KL via the highway.

Hey @kaerpediem, here's simple meaning of Tōge, basically is driving through the mountain range with a narrow winding road, the more corners the better 😉

Makes it even cooler haha ... and a convoy of 10 cars... love it!

😆 last time even more, if not mistaken 13 or 15 cars

Wow!! I can imagine the fun you’ll must have ..😊
