The other day @booster916 was talking to me about why we have the racecar frame sandblasted every year. This is why.

Looking at it you say it is just bare metal. That is not true though. Sandblasted metal rusts at a very very slow rate. Cracks in the frame will show up within a day and look like this.

That is where our motor plate bolts too. If it breaks loose it is bad news bears.

We found about 3 cracks in the frame that are getting welded up tonight then she heads to paint on Friday.

Old racing secrets I am picking up from my inlaws.

Looks like the Trans is ready for a new season. The Bell housing looks like new paint on it. Quick question you go to Mig Weld those cracks ?

yep mig welded. That transmission is also a special transmission even though it just looks like a regular transmission. That is actually a Transmission my inlaws created that is called a Layne. You push the clutch in to lock the clutch to the input shaft. once the car is running and you let out on the clutch pedal the flywheel and clutch assembly stop spinning. once you are in high gear and racing it is a direct drive transmission.

Sounds like the Bert or Winter Trans that are popular here in North East Modified racing. Hope you guys do not have any issues with it.

If the garage stories are correct the Layne was the original and then companies like bert and brinn copied it and modified it to what they have now with the internal clutches and stuff.
