Another reason to check around your car before driving

in cars •  6 years ago

In my previous post I mentioned in passing that before driving, if possible, you should always walk around the car to inspect the wheels and lookout for anything that looks out of the ordinary.

This aftermath picture of an unfortunate "accident" I saw while I was in Port Dickson drives home this point even further.

@denion suggested that the wheel lugnuts were stolen, so while reversing the car out of the parking the wheels came off when the driver was turning the steering to the left. From the way the wheels collapsed, it made perfect sense....but why would anyone want to steal the lugnuts? @denion further suggested it was the work of local tow truck syndicates who sabotaged the car as a way to drum up business.

Judging From the number plate it is likely the driver is not from around here - a tourist, like me. So there is a good chance the local tow trucks will be called up to fix the situation, at an exorbitant rate, of course.

Needless to say, this could've been avoided if the driver checked the wheels before driving off. It's an honest mistake to make, but fortunately something we can all avoid simply by taking two minutes to check the car and the immediate surroundings before returning to the driver's seat.

But then there's another type of "worries" especially for ladies... Once we are near our car, we should get into our car ASAP and lock the door the first thing we are in the car, to avoid snatch thief or car thief or even kidnapper. 😵😱
If everyone can just be nice and do nice things to each other, wouldn't it be a better world...

Yeah, of course only do it in an environment that you feel safe in, or just quickly glance at the wheels to make sure all the lugnuts are there.

Thanks for the tip! : )
