As the month of November comes to an end, the EV sales of last month are all in. As expected, BAIC is back on top of the monthly ranking, but Tesla almost secured two 2018 titles.

October sales

Looking at the October sales numbers, the BAIC EC-Series was the best sold EV. 20,600 of this Chinese car have been sold, all in its home market. Teslas Model 3 was second this month with "only" 18,500 sales in the US and Canada combined. Third place in October went to Nissan, which sold 8,300 Leafs globally. The top five is completed by two more Chinese cars, the BYD Tang PHEV and the Hawtai EV160.

In total 208,000 EVs (BEV and PHEV combined) were sold this month. This makes October the best month ever for EVs, beating the record of 202,000 in September.

2018 ranking

On the year-to-date ranking Teslas Model 3 is still on top. Given the 27,000 lead over number two, the Nissan Leaf, and 33,000 lead over the BAIC EC-Series, Tesla can already start celebrating their 2018 title for best sold EV. Given the huge momentum, the EC-Series is likely to surpass the Leaf in November and secure the second spot in December of this year. A battle for the fourth place is going on between the Tesla Model S, The BYD Qin PHEV and the Toyota Prius PHEV. It would be interesting to see which of these cars can secure this spot. Any bets?

Looking at the manufacturer level, Tesla is also on top. It sold 177,000 cars so far, which is 13,500 more than BYD. BYD however did close in a bit last month, so the 2018 title is not yet 100% secured by the American manufacturer. BAIC is safe on number 3, with 119,000 EVS sold, followed by BMW (99,000) and Roewe (79,000).
