Byton: the ultra connected Chinese concept

You can not stop progress. Right now is CES, the technology fair held every year in Las Vegas and it's always the opportunity to discover many new ideas to come on the market in the coming years.

In the radius of vehicles, the 2018 vintage has not failed to reserve its share of innovation to the image of Byton, newcomer in the autonomous electric vehicle sector that intends to compete well with Tesla.

The Chinese start-up, whose R & D center is located in California and the Design Center in Munich, has shed light on its first Concept: an ultra-connected electric SUV. The model will integrate a level 3 autonomous driving mode at its exit and then evolve after one year at the level via an update.

It must be said that in terms of technology, the Byton Concept can make you dizzy. It all starts outside the car that uses cameras on the door pillars to recognize the driver and his passengers and unlock the doors. The vehicle also incorporates an artificial intelligence to adapt to the habits of its occupants.

Inside, the instrumentation takes the form of a gigantic screen over the entire width of the dashboard, controlled by voice and gestures. A touchpad integrated in the steering wheel allows the driver to adjust the settings of the car. Settings that passengers can also access using their smartphones.

The car is equipped with a series of sensors inside to measure occupant health such as heart rate, weight or tension.

Finally, the Byton Concept also includes a 5G connection to allow you to enjoy the internet while driving. We will naturally ask the question of the problem related to all these distractions inside the cabin unless we associate the virtual reality launched by Ubisoft.

On the technical side, the machine is based on two batteries and motors. The first configuration of 71 kWh achieves the 272 horsepower and 400 Nm for 400 km of autonomy announced, when the second offers a battery of 95 kWh, 476 horsepower and 710 Nm for 520 km of autonomy.

Expected for a launch in 2020 in Europe, the Byton is today announced from 37,600 euros ($ 45,000). If all the promises are kept, Tesla is worried about ...
