To comply with the automotive trend, Lamborghini has already taken the turn of the SUV with the sublime Urus. Hybridization, another major movement in the sector, now appears as the new big building site of the Italian manufacturer, with the future declination of the legendary Aventador at the heart of the process.

Maurizio Reggiani, in charge of research and development, told Motor Authority at the Detroit show: "We must determine what will be the future of ultra-sports in terms of electric contribution".

The Porsche 918 and McLaren P1 have shown that speed is not the main concern of a hybrid sports car. The real problem lies in the weight of the vehicle. The one of the batteries poses problem to the Aventador since it is of 1,853 kg. Even the installation of a dual-clutch transmission, which seems a must for the next generation of Aventador, will not be approved until its weight exceeds that of the single clutch transmission present in the vehicle. .

The designers can not hope to reduce the weight of the Aventador by lightening the bodywork since this one, in carbon fiber, is already ultra-light.

However, the electrification will sooner or later be a must for Lamborghini, as the introduction of the turbocharger. Reggiani mentioned it, as did Lamborghini sales director Federico Foschini last year. The Urus will certainly receive a hybrid engine soon and the Huracan should become a hybrid in 2022.

European emission standards will not be relaxed anytime soon. The electrification of Lamborghini's flagship model is therefore only a matter of time.
