Toyota GR Super Sport Concept: Recessed LMP1

Only manufacturer to continue its commitment in LMP1, the category-queen of the world endurance championship, Toyota not only intends to win the next 24 Hours of Le Mans: the brand is also loose by implanting the mechanics of its prototype in a concept radical.

Forbiously too wise, the Toyota? In recent years, the brand seeks to shake this image. Notably thanks to the internationalization of its sports department Gazoo Racing, author of the new Yaris GRNM produced in very limited series. But for this concept called Super Sport, difficult to imagine an entry into production, even if the manufacturer does not close the door to this idea. Its V6 2.4 hybrid biturbo develops almost 1000 hp and comes directly from the TS050, entered in the LMP1 category of the World Endurance Championship. So this is a Toyota that could compete with the Mercedes-AMG Project One and Aston Martin-Red Bull Valkyrie.

Far from a normal Toyota

The body differs, it, totally from that of the race prototype, without seeming frankly more suited to the road so far. Once again aerodynamics prevails, so much so that this Gazoo Racing Super Sport concept conceals its headlights, exempts rear window and seems unable to cross the back of a donkey. Even though Toyota says it wants to "develop sports cars from its active racing cars", this study seems well destined to remain a unique specimen. Just like the spectacular GT-One of 1998, which had been homologated for the road, but only to obtain the right to run in the GT1 class, which then proved to be ideal for winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans and which will turn into LMP1 in 1999.
