I’ve not seen any nice cars around my neighbourhood for nearly a year when suddenly an
MG TC pops up, and then to my surprise

WP_20171212_18_00_13_Pro.jpgan MGB, a few days later.

When I had my first job I would look through the pages of unique car magazine looking for a car that would be suitable, I didn’t earn very much so I would look at a car and work out how long it would take to own, usually along time, so I would get excited about cars and then realise I could not afford them.

WP_20171212_18_00_30_Pro.jpg

One day on my way to work there I saw one of these MGB’s in a car yard and later on during my lunch break went to have a look, it was probably about 10 thousand dollars out of my price range but got me thinking this may be a sports car I could afford one day.

WP_20171212_18_00_38_Pro.jpg

So I started looking for ways to get one and found there were a few around that were in need of restoration, the price at the time was just affordable, but would need a lot of work to restore one. Looking back at the way my life went I am grateful I didn’t go through with a restoration project at that time.

After being a bit frustrated with the restoration idea, I did find one just like this, it was red and was in fantastic condition, I took it for a test drive and really liked it.

What an experience I had never driven an old car without a synchromesh gear box so it took a little getting used to. I really wanted the car it was just out of my price but with a car loan I could have had it.

WP_20171212_18_00_50_Pro.jpg

The seats were black leather like an old lounge and it had a smell, I can’t describe the smell, unless you have driven one and know the smell I’m talking about you won’t know what I’m on about, but it was an old sports car smell, it smelt like a sort of old oily british machine, it was a good smell, not unpleasant I still remember it years later, it felt cool driving around in that car.

I didn’t get the car, I think the gearbox was the biggest factor, it would have taken a week or so to get used to it. I also had a few friends who convinced me not to get the car on mechanical grounds.

So that was my first encounter with a sports car and thankfully it would not be my last…..

Funny story! It has a long bonnet maybe he used that, but yeah not much room in these things. Thanks for the comment good to hear stories about MG's and their many uses!

Nice looking car

I love the MGBs! I used to walk past an orange MGB GT (Hard Top) on my way to school back in the day. Used to dream about owning one at some point, more so when I found out my granddad owned a couple! Great pictures @gyro, looking forward to seeing more!

Awesome, its really special when you see them in real life, something about the photo's just don't really do them justice, but I think you probably understand that, your granddad sounds like a cool bloke!

Thanks for the comment always good to hear from other car guys!!

Retro British, awesome little Roadster 😎

Thanks yeah they are!

I've never driven one, Michael part of PA his grand father is restoring a 1953 MG, a wooden one, it looks amazing, the model escapes me.

Sounds like an MGA - hope to see some pics!

Did you know that by picking the 100% steem power reward for this post that you wasted almost ~$300 in value? Because of the inflated price of SBD right now you really should be picking the 50/50 option for ALL your posts.

Don't believe me?
Current post value = ~$50
100% steem power payout = ~$50 in steem power
50/50 payout = ~$25 in steem power + ~25 SBD... SBD are going for over $12 each, which again is worth just under ~$300 worth of SBD your wasting for no reason.

Anyways just wanted to point that out since you are obviously overlook how the payout rewards work on this platform...

Anyways tips appreciated since this could easily make you hundreds of extra dollars each week...

Yes I did know that, I forgot to change it before I pressed post as I was more concerned with writing from my heart and I was concentrating on my work.

I am also committed to the platform all of my posts are articles that I have written myself in some cases using images that have taken days to create, and have not powered down at all, as I am not bothered about the money at this point I am trying to connect with people and build up a blog.

I am also trying to connect with car guys as I enjoy cars, I see a lot of posts in the cars tag where people just link to a random image and put absolutely no effort into it at all, if you read a few of the comments above I have had a few visitors that liked my article and I have enjoyed talking with them about it. I am trying to make steem a better place in that way by concentrating on what I love and am passionate about.

Thank you for the tip.
