I love this back...

History of the Lamborghini 400 GT

It all started with an argument between Enzo Ferrari and Ferruccio Lamborghini. Ferruccio, that had made a fortune by selling tractors, complained that his Ferrari still broke down, Enzo replied :

"You can drive a tractor, but you can't drive a Ferrari".

So Ferruccio decided to produce his own GT with in 1963 the 350 GT. The first step was to increase the engine power and to fit it in the 350 GT, the 400 GT Interim version was born, only 23 were built (20 with steel body and only 3 in aluminum like this model).

Later, the coachwork was modified in order to have more space for the rear passager, the 400 GT 2+2. This model was presented during the Geneva Auto Show in 1966.

Great car, mate!

I've always envied the Lamborghini vs. Ferrari competition, as its kickstarted some of the best cars Italy has seen, which shows that competition is always good. The 400GT has a pretty timeless design, though I somehow prefer its Ferrari rivals more. A true underdog, and somewhat underappreciated compared to some of Lambo's other stables, like the Miura.

Thanks for sharing these beautiful cars as always, @heroldius :-)

Enzo knew how pissed off people ... Thanks to him, Lamborghini decided to produce cars and Ford with Shelby to get into auto racing (24h du Mans). Great man !

Great man indeed. He not only made some wonderful cars himself, he also inspired his competitors to make some greats cars to challenge him. Rest in peace, il Commendatore.

I wouldn't have used the word Inspiration, he rather pissed off people who wanted to beat him in return :-). It was great competition.

Inspiration in competition :-)

That's a beautiful car mate and pretty cheap for an old Lambo, cheers.

Yep nice design, especially the back...
