During RM Sotheby's Essen Sale (11-12 April), a rally legend, 1985 Lancia Delta S4 Stradale will go to auction for about € 500,000. It's one of only 200 Stradale built in order to have the World Rally Championship Group B homologation, the most fastest and more powerful rally cars...

History of the Lancia Delta S4

The Lancia Delta S4 was introduced for the World Rally Championship 1985 and competed also in 1986, the last year of the Group B. The first victory car won the 1985 Wales Rally with behind the wheel Henri Toivonen. In 1986, during the Tour de Corse, the Toivonen's Delta plunged into a ravine and exploded killing the Finnish driver and his copilot, Sergio Cresto. This accident led directly to the end of Group B.

In order to have the homologation, Lancia built 200 examples of Delta S4 Stradale in 1985 and 1986 in collaboration with Abarth. But the price was so high that by the end of the 90's, some of them were still languishing in showroom deposits.

Specification

The Lancia Delta S4 Stradale was a beast with 1.8 litre four-cylinder engine that was both supercharged and turbocharged producing 247 hp at 6,750 rpm. It can reach 100 kmh in just 6 seconds with a top speed of 225 kmh.

This model is finished in rosso over a tan Alcantara interior. What a beautiful example of Lancia’s rally icon !
