Just 20 years ago, everyone was laughing at hybrid cars. The Toyota Prius was perceived as a spaceship and already, at the time, one mocked its anemic performances.
Two decades later, the hybrid engine has come a long way. So well-known manufacturers such as Porsche and McLaren have used it to build their most powerful vehicles, the 918 Spyder and the P1.
Even Ferrari could not resist the temptation. The most successful model in its history, the famous LaFerrari , is powered by a V12 paired with an electric motor.
And according to Ferrari, it's only started. From next year, the manufacturer of Maranello will market at least one model that will be equipped with a hybrid V8.
At least that's what Sergio Marchionne, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' boss, said in an interview with the English publication Auto Express . "A hybrid V8-engined Ferrari will arrive in 2019. Test cars are already here."
Ferrari has not confirmed which model will receive this new engine, but Auto Express says that the future SUV of the brand could be part of the list of candidates.
We will certainly know more in the coming months.
