Leyland Marina 262-SIX project. Part 5.

in cars •  7 years ago  (edited)

The beginnings that set off the buying of this car. As i have made mention before i had owned a Marina 262-SIX years ago. I sold that car in making progress for my move to Tasmania from the northern suburbs of Brisbane around 14+ years ago.

I have missed the fun and enjoyment that car gave me when driving it. A very good friend of mine who still has a few Marinas has been on my case for years to buy another one of these. I have kept an eye and ear out for a suitable Marina for a few years now i came close to buying one last year. Though it was just not the right one for me.

As these cars in 6 cylinder engine form are rather rare now. With production being less than one years worth back some 45 years ago they are not easy to find. Once again i was looking through gumtree searching Marina and nothing but there was an ebay link on the page that showed a pic of a green Marina.

I start thinking it will be on the big island and most likely a 4 cylinder version. Anyway i clicked the add link i checked location and said it was in Hobart Tasmania well how about that and i was going to be travelling to Hobart the next day to go to the hospital. Now i am getting keen now i need to check the add more for specs and wow it is a 262-SIX automatic in spanish olive almost identical to the one i sold for the move to Tas. The last one i had was the top spec and this one is the basic spec model.

I made contact that night with the person selling the car on ebay and made arrangements to inspect the car the next day after i left the hospital. It was night by the time i arrived to look at the car so checked it out via torch light. Car seemed ok even though i was not able to test drive it as there was no rego on it. As there had been no bids yet on ebay he said i could buy it with out going through the bidding.

I made a quick phone call to my friend for his take on the car and price and he said i should buy it so i did. It was cool as it felt like i had my old car back after all these years:)

I was going through some of my old photgraphs and found these two pics of the car i used to have years ago. These are not great as i just took photos of these with my phone. You may notice this one has a different grill as i had swaped it for the earlier and lighter model grill.

This is the car towing a car trailer with a 262-SIX coupe with the top cut off placed upside down going to scrap metal after taking all the parts i wanted. Looking back now i should have kept that coupe.

Glad you like it mate and thanks for following along.

Ah so that's the history to the love affair with you and the car.

Cool story

Yep and now you know :)

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

The beginings that set off the buying of this car.
It should be beginnings instead of beginings.

Fixed now thank you.
