S: "You have a beautiful car."
JNET: "Thank you!"
S: "Interested in selling?"
JNET: "Never!"
S: "My daughter and I have seen it around for years. Do you live or work around here?"
JNET: "I teach in the neighborhood."
S: "My daughter really wants your car...."
JNET: "Visit a VW specialist. The mechanics know which owners are preparing to sell their cars."
S: "People lie about their cars. You don't know what you are really buying. I've seen your car for years, it's a good car. You take care of it. I want your car."
JNET: ?!?!?!?!?!?!
Didn't I say "never" first thing? The conversation took a weird turn.
Fortunately, I was able to escape without further word. I friend was walking my way.
It felt like a Willy Wonky moment. I had met Veruca's daddy and if I hung out for a bit, some girl would come out singing, "I Want It Now."
I like that my car makes people feel happy. Yesterday, a mom and her baby girl waved at me while on the road. I enjoyed that exchange.
Y: "You should sell your car. Get a new car. Something with AC and air bags."
And wave goodbye to the nice world of bug love?
Every blue moon, someone close to me thinks it's a smart idea to sell my baby for something new. Where is the wisdom in exchanging something you love for something new?
Where...
IS
The
Wisdom
In
Exchanging
Something
You
LOVE
For
Something
NEW????
Sometimes, this car I love, needs maintenance. Maybe I visit my mechanic more than those with new cars. It's never convenient but I like looking after my car. It's especially nice that the specialists I see are like good friends. Many times, my car had an easy fix and was sorted out gratis. Despite hiccups here and there in the course of time, I've enjoy my sweet ole bug.
Would I exchange the friendly supportive community for something new?
Loving something simply because of newness is certain to fail. How many new cars must one drive before they realize the timed resentment that comes when novelty wears.
When I see other VWs beetles on the road, it's like seeing a cute puppy. I wave or give a little beep beep hello.
You would never get rid of your dog once it's done being a puppy would you??? Nor would you consider yourself a good pet owner if you were constantly demanding and very scant with praise and nurturing.
I hope we all love what and who we have in our lives and that we love and take care of them. There's a place and joy for newness. Enjoy that. And there's a fuzzy place where the love of novelty devalues our experiences. Only you can judge where the distinctions lie. Wishing everyone enduring happiness.
