If you've ever owned a Camry, you can agree when I say that even though they are America's best selling sedan, they lack visual appeal. Interior and exterior wise, the older Camry's just came off as kind of boring and conventional. It was a "ehhh this is the best bang for my buck so I guess this will do" kind of vehicle. This is no longer the case. Toyota has completely stepped out of their comfort zone with this newly designed 2018 Camry and THANK YOU SWEET ANN they finally did because they really needed it. In this article I am going to list my top 5 likes and top 5 dislikes about this cutting-edge vehicle.
Top 5 Likes
1. Redesigned Look
The 2018 Toyota Camry is built on Toyota's TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform which in easy terms; lowers the vehicle from the previous year about 1.2 inches for a smoother ride and tighter handling. A re-vamped hood design to go along with a brand new two-tone paint job make this vehicle as sexy as ever. If you love the older Camry's or currently have one, then just the images of the 2018 Camry are going to tantalize you until the breaking point.
2. Toyota Safety Sense-P
Now standard in every trim level of the 2018 Camry is Toyota Safety Sense-P. What does this include? Automatic High Beams, Lane Departure Alert w/ Steering Assist, Pre-Collision System w/ Pedestrian Detection & Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Blind-Spot Monitoring and Rear-Cross Traffic Alert are available packages on all trim levels except for L. This is a huge advantage for Toyota since the majority of other car brands only have these standard safety features in their higher trim level vehicles.
3. Who Needs a Map?
Now standard in every trim level of the 2018 Camry is Connected Navigation with moving maps. With Toyota being all about safety on the roads, this is very reassuring to see from them. All they need to do to improve their Nav system is to partner with Waze and make them their patented navigation system! (I can dream)
4. FEEL THE POWER!
This goes hand-in-hand with TNGA. The output has risen from 178 horsepower and 170-lb of torque to 203 hp and 184-lb of torque or 206 hp & 186 in the XSE with its quad exhaust outlets (another Camry first). If you really want to get funky fun on the roads, Toyota also offers a V-6 engine that switched from a 6-speed to an 8-speed. The V-6 engine is offered in the XSE & XLE trims which gives off a potent 301 hp versus the 269 hp in the 2017, along with 267-lb of torque, rising from 248.
5. Caliente Interior
Now this may not be one of the more beneficial features to the Camry, but it is one of my favorites. Available on XSE trims only, the Cockpit Red Leather Perforated Interior is as sexy as it gets. I mean Ryan Reynolds making babies with Blake Lively sexy. Need I say more?
Top 5 Dislikes
1. Non-Sport Trim Levels
I believe the sports trim level is what really makes the 2018 Camry truly unique. The LE trims compared from 2017 to 2018 exterior wise is not that different. No two-toned exterior colors and basic interior colors bring this vehicle back down to Earth. Let the people spice it up a little baby!
2. STILL NO ALL WHEEL DRIVE?!
In my eyes, this will always be what keeps Toyota from monumentally destroying the competition. They made their AWD (All-Wheel Drive) vehicles completely backwards. Toyota is the only car brand in the U.S. that offers AWD mini-vans, but they can't offer AWD sedans. But hey that's none of my business.
3. No Apple Play
Not a HUGE issue to deal with, but no Apple Play once again for Toyota vehicles. Their Entune 3.0 system is still overly capable of connecting your smart phone to the Camry, but obviously Apple having such a huge market, you'd expect Toyota to get with the times but oh well. Entune 3.0 is nothing to complain about though since the multimedia system is still offering more features and services than ever seen in a Toyota vehicle before.
I COULD ONLY COME UP WITH THREE DISLIKES
Until more 2018 sedans start hitting the stores, it's hard to compare this Camry to everyone else, but in my honest opinion the 2018 Camry is going to blow the competition out of the water like America catching a North Korean submarine crossing into our water boarders. Why do I think this? Because according to JDPower Toyota is ranked 3rd highest for Overall Vehicle Dependability: http://www.jdpower.com/ratings/study/Vehicle-Dependability-Study-%28VDS%29-by-Make/1881ENG . So not only do you get this astonishing, new wave vehicle; but you also get the comfort of knowing that this vehicle could last you for years and years to come!
Let me know what you like/dislike about the 2018 Toyota Camry and tell me if you think any other 2018 sedans can compete with the Camry's value! Thanks for reading!
Mr-Smorgasbord
Now that's a sleek lookin' Toyota. I have never been a big fan of Toyota car bodies (besides the Supra), but this is one I wouldn't mind getting behind the wheel of.
