Troubleshooting issues on my GT-R

To boost or not to boost?

Most of you already know that I'm having a couple issues with my electronic boost controller. It's either on 0.5 bar or 1.5bar no matter what settings I change I can either go really high or really low.

This tells me there aren't any leaks, as I've done a leak down test and also tested and replaced leads connecting to the electronic boost controller solenoid.

Troubleshooting

My testing was fairly simple, now that I knew the vacuum and boost pipes were 100% it came down to electronics. The device has worked once or twice during this problematic period but only after driving for a while.

I started by stripping the main EVC unit (Not the graphical display) and ensured no burnt tracks, popped capacitors or damaged resistors.

I then tested the electrical cable that runs from the EVC unit to the solenoid and was receiving 11.5v on the red, 9.5v on the white and black was grounding. This test was done with the car not running but in an ignition state.

Knowing that electrical is okay, I removed the solenoid and run some compressed air through it. I also cleaned it with an earbud.

After spending a few hours googling the matter, I've come to the conclusion that I've broken my EVC solenoid. I didn't run the air filters on the vacuum leads and I believe any small dust particles are able to damage the solenoid bearings.

Unfortunately for me there isn't much of a DIY I can do with regards to fixing it and to be honest I wouldn't want to mess around with something that controls pressure to my turbochargers.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get myself a new electronic boost controller. Let's hope steem prices rise so I can sort myself out!

Bleh!

i drive slow! hahaha....

You're well and truly missing out ;)

You've got no luck when it comes to turbochargers recently. First the FD now the R32 :(
Fingers crossed you will get it sorted out soon and at a reasonable prise.

Tell me about it! Always an issue with these cars... I don't feel too bad about the FD though, it came from Japan with that issue. I'll figure it out though. This one I'm probably going to have to buy an EVC 6 or a replacement solenoid, EVC is around $400 USD and solenoid I can't find :( Oh well!

Well that't the dark side of our passion after all :D
