Best German Cars To Buy Today

in cars •  7 years ago

Most people believe that German automotive engineering is the best in the world. German manufacturers hold that reputation for decades. When you buy a German car, especially from well-known brands you expect built quality and efficiency. And this is exactly what you get. You can find many used BMW or Audi cars that have more than 200,000 miles on the clock and still look new. What many people forget is that Germans also make beautiful cars. Sure, they don't have as many beautiful cars as Italians or French. However, considering that quality is first on their mind styling of the most cars is still pretty good.
On this list, I put only cars from manufacturers that reside in Germany. As you probably know Volkswagen Group owns Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, SEAT, and Škoda. BMW owns Mini and Rolls Royce and Daimler AG own Smart. Therefore, I won't mention cars of those brands that don't make their cars in Germany. Some parts for some of their cars are made in Germany but you get the point.
With that on the way, on the list, we have three big manufacturers. Volkswagen (owns Audi and Porsche), Mercedes and BMW. There will also be three cars from small companies. Those are Weismann, 9ff, and Ruf. There are many other small manufacturers but they either don't develop their own cars or didn't make anything recently. As you can see Germans don't just make great cars, they own half of the market.

Ruf CTR3 Clubsport

Ruf Automobile GmbH is automaking company from a small town of Pfaffenhausen. For decades, they are remanufacturing, modifying and perfecting cars based on Porsches. To be precise, since the birth of Porsche 911 in 1963. Six years ago, they made RUF CTR3 to be competitive to Porsche GT. Now they have the new version a Ruf CTR3 Clubsport. It is made to compete with Porsche 918 Spider, LaFerrari and McLaren P1. Ruf changed almost everything, aerodynamics, performance, wide-body fenders, and ground-effects package. Cayman front structure is now wider, lower and much louder. Under the hood is twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter, dry-sump-lubed boxer six-cylinder engine. It delivers 777 horsepower and 707-pound-feet of torque. Acceleration is not impressive if you want to beat supercars I mentioned, zero to 60 mph in 3 seconds. However, Ruf CTR3 Clubsport has a top speed of 236 mph, which is faster than McLaren P1, LaFerrari and such.

Porsche 918 Spyder

The 918 Spyder is the best supercar Germany can offer. Actually it’s a hypercar! With 918, Porsche combined traditional supercar might with hybrid power. The engine is modified from RS Spyder racing car. A 4.6-litre V8 engine delivers 608 horsepower at 9150 rpm. Porsche also added an electric motor that sends 277 horsepower to both front and rear axles. Therefore, the total engine output is 887 horsepower and 940 lb-ft of torque. This make 918 accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds. This makes Spyder one of the fastest production cars ever made. Thanks to the electric engine 918 Spyder is even economically efficient. Using only electric power, 918 Spyder has a range of about 18 miles and speed up to 93mph. Experts say this car is more enjoyable to ride than 911 or fellow Hybrid Panamera. A truly remarkable achievement by Porsche, that even costs less than other hypercars.

Weismann GT MF5

Wiesmann is another small car manufacturer that recently built a new factory in Dulmen near Dortmund. On their logo and at the top of the factory is Gekko. They are fast and grippy little animals that Wiesmann wants you to associate with their cars. Seriously, this is the official explanation. This car first appears on Frankfurt motor show in 2007. Wiesmann took an all-alloy natural 5-liter V10 engine from BMW. This famous engine delivers 500 horsepower at 7750 rpm and 383lb ft of torque at 6200rpm. The GT MF5 goes from zero to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 193 mph. In addition to this fantastic performance, MF5 has a new rear wing and diffuser that enhances the aerodynamics. Interior design is elegant but with a sporty purpose. Weismann GT MF5 achieved something amazing; they made a fantastic and unique sports car that is also very classy.

There are slight changes on the bumper and new Alpina Classic 20-inch wheels. On the interior, you can find Nevada and Lavalina leather with many Alpina gauges colored in a signature red-on-blue motif and logos. Most powerful xDrive35d has 3.0-liter Biturbo engine that delivers 350 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Controlling this power is eight-speed Switch-Tronic gearbox. Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé

Saloon version of Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the ultimate in limousine luxury. For those who prefer more sporting performance along with luxury and technology, there is a two-door Mercedes S-Class Coupé. There are three versions with three different engines. The S 500 is an entry version with turbocharged 4.7-litre V8 engine. The S 63 AMG has a bi-turbo 5.5-litre V8 engine. Most powerful is S 65 AMG with the mighty turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 engine that delivers 621 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. The S-Class Coupé delivers a smooth, sharp-edged driving that is all about passenger comfort. Not much is different in AMG S65 except that it has even-speed automatic transmission and no all-wheel-drive option. Interior is fantastic looking with famous COMAND infotainment and semi-autonomous driver-assistance tech.
