Winter Morning Driving Tip!steemCreated with Sketch.

"Can I borrow the hair dryer?"

"What on earth for?"

Just tested. If the inside of your windshield is frosted over, the hair dryer technique works much faster than idling the car and running its internal heater.

As a bonus, the hair dryer, if aimed like above, gets rid of the frost from the top of the windshield. The car's heater gets rid of the frost from the bottom, slowing down the defrosting even more. A couple of minutes with the dryer, on high heat and full power, saves ~10 minutes in idle waiting for the heater to do its thing.

(Or, save you from slouching and peeking through the defrosted bottom of the window....)

I just got to find my extension cord and ill be set, I don't know why I didn't think of this those days it was -40.

One of my buddies a few years ago threw boiling water on his windshield lol it instantly shattered

Ouch!! Too much heat differential. Back in the early days of coffee machines, there were glass carafes that would crack if you flushed them with cold waterafter taking them off the hot-plate. Same effect.

Just a tip: try using a scraper first, especially if the frost is thick. I can find my extension cord because I got one of those chip-controlled air compressors for the tires: the cord's right by the compressor :)

Thank you so very much for sharing this tip! I beyond appreciate it! I'm proudly following and upvoting my Friend! All the best! Positive Energy! Great Karma! Your Friend @extraterrestrial :)

Interesting! I usually stick to cryptocurrencies on Steemit, but I saw this tip and actually just got my brother to try it on his car. Really helpful! I would really appreciate if you have any feedback on my new post series, I'm trying to help beginners grow on the platform.

Great - thanks for passing it along! I'll start following you; you'll hear from me. :)

Thanks very much! Glad to hear it.

Interesting
M learning new things

Good idea, will pass it on to hubby :)

Along with your hair dryer. ;)

He can buy his own haha :)

We had a Ford Focus with integral heating elements in the windscreen - Best thing ever on a frosty morning!

But this is a good tip!

We had a Ford Focus with integral heating elements in the windscreen

I had no idea those existed now. I can certainly see why you'd be glad you had 'em.

Funny: when I bough t the car, my dad kept warning me and warning me about the battery. He said the car should start right away even if it's -15 or -20C.

I don't think we get those temperatures here in the UK... and I have to admit I'm happy with that ;)

Oh, right; I forgot. Your weather is milder than Canada's.

Odd how the seasons work. Toronto at ~43.7 N latitude. London UK is at ~51.5 N, and it's milder than Toronto. Manchester UK is at ~53.5 N and it's milder than Toronto!

Winnipeg's ~50 N. As I write, it's slightly below 0F there.

We have the Gulf Stream to warm us up.

That'll do it.

Yes, it's a massive difference, despite the latitude.

We have friends in BC and Alberta and we're hoping to meet with them all this year. In the summer though... ;)

Yes, summer would be better - unless you see cold & snow as a bracing challenge...

Lol.. This is a funny technique but looks cool. Think i will try it out someday.

Yeah, it is funny but useful. Best funny-but-useful tip since the '70s-era tip about using panty hose to temporarily replace a broken belt.

nice nxtblg i am reading it first time and a uniqe and wonderfull idea which sure work fastly and good to share it i think here are many like me who hear about this first time

Thanks.

Wao, that's is a good idea, thanks for the alternative, thanks for sharing

thats great and thanx for giving this best tip and hope it will work good and sure i will try it,,,,,
good work for this easy and helpfull tip @nxtblg

Give it a try and see how it works. In my experience, it starts slow - at first nothing seems to happen - but then the frost just melts away.

Prolly, the best (fastest) technique is to use a scraper first and the hair dryer to melt what's left.

First time I saw the hair dryer technique on youtube. We have +10 C today and a lot of sun after a sequense of few -5 C days.

Greetings to the red cutie!

Thanks! I thought of it after one cold winter morning in which I had to wait a loooong time for the heater to do its job.

"What would make this so-and-so wait time shorter?"

(I actually bought my own hair dryer.)

Im the master of breaking my windshield scrapers. 3 this winter and two last winter.

Iowa weather could be better lol. Blazing hot humid summers and bone chilling winters.

btw what do you drive?

Also haven't introduced myself.

Checking it out now. Welcome to Steemit!

The plate is awesome!

Theres a few people here in Iowa City that have bitcoin related plates. The best one I've seen is this gray Maserati with the plate "BTC DAD" lol

The way crypto's going, there might well be a Bitcoin or "blockchain" icon option for everyone's plate!

If you're tempted to grab STEEMIT for Iowa, I say got for it!

Yeah no kidding.

I will keep that on my mind. Even if nobody knows what steemit is, its still a badass plate. especially if you have some aftermarket parts under the hood... lol

This morning I was reminded of this post lol. Thought to myself.. damnit, I don't have a hair dryer with me lol

had to pull out the good ole casino rewards card to clear this bad boy off. lol. like I mentioned earlier, I'm the master of breaking scrapers so I don't have one laying around

a good and steady tool for winter @nxtblg

Thanks.

To make lashes curl better, take a hair dryer to your eyelash curler for one or two seconds before using it.😂

good idea for driver in the morning @nxtblg

Might seem like a good idea, but it isn't. Like told here, this can seriously crack your window rendering nasty bill = not defrosted window. I seriously suggest NOT TO DO SO, because 'how hard can it be?' even a normal (with all working bits tho) diesel car defrosts itself in no time.

What's wrong with a hair dryer? It blows hot air, just like the car's defroster vent once the engine heats up.

The example you're referring to was a pot of boiled water. Liquid water has a helluva lot more heat per square inch than hot air.

He, it is quite a difference. Cars defroster heat up the window gradually and definitely not that concentrated as hair dryer. A sudden spike of hot air applied to iced window is definitely not good. The tricky thing is that I have read comments from some car manufacturers, this case, Audi A6 C7 users complaining, that even the existing built in defroster have screwed up the iced windshield so even that has to be used with a caution.
