357.000KM / 223.000mls on the clock - A fire, A breakin and some gizmos - BMW E46 320i [Original Photos]

It's got its paint chips, scratches, dents and lots of tear and wear but this is the original Cosmosblack-metallic paintjob and the car is mostly rust free. A pre owner had the front right fender replaced and that part does not step up to the factory quality and therefore shows some corrosion. I'm the third owner, first one was a Doctor lady she ran it from 0 to 180.000KM ~ 113.000mls, the second one was a car mechanic who ran it from

The fire the car suffered in its engine bay had me extinguish the entire engine bay and that left some of the salt based chemical on the metal and leads to some surface corrosion. That said I cleaned up 98% of it and most cars that get blasted by an extinguisher are instantly totaled so I guess I got lucky.

This car's been through so much shit with me including a break in 1 1/2 yrs back as well as a striking EWS (electronic anti theft ignition cut out system) leading to sporadically not starting. Apart from that I replaced any and all torn and worn parts, mechanically, electrically and cosmetically.

Hope you enjoy some impressions.

It's got quite a unique combo of an M-Tech package early in the run which meant front, side and rear bumpers/skirts and some other stuff but retaining the chrome trim around the windows. I retrofitted the era correct sports seats with matching style and fitted Eibach 30mm springs on original Sachs dampers (for M-suspension).

Nice car there,BMW can easily make 500 000 km on the clock so don´t bother with mileage. Just aesthetic friend.

Got to love the e46 platform I had a few 318ci when I was 19 then moved to the 325i. I made the mistake of moving to the e92 335i and soon returned to the e46 platform with the M3

How much money did you invest in maintenance?

I documented everything so easy to answer :) With old BMWs you gotta calculate roughly 2-3 grand per year in the first 3 years and then it goes down to like 500 maybe (oil changes, small stuff here and there).

With this one including all work (shopwork and the times I rented a shop station), all parts, all fluids and tires etc. it comes to 5 grand in 3 years.

I'm now down to really detailed stuff like fixing trim parts, upgrading light bulbs, putting in BT functionality and stuff. I change oil every 6-12k mls, air filter and interior filter every 10-14k mls.

I gotta say I bought it for less than 3 grand - considerably less :).

It would be pretty expensive for me to maintain, but at least the driving experience is worth it. Have fun with the bimmer and take great care of it! :D
