First world problems of an automotive journalist

in cars •  7 years ago

As some of our Planet Auto followers might be aware, last week we were testing the Volvo V90 D4 R-Design. First of all it has to be said that it is a fantastic car, if I had the money I would buy one today! This brings me on to my 1st world problems of a automotive journalist! When Monday came around this week the Volvo was returned. I then stepped back behind the wheel of my beloved Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost. In its own right, it is a very good car and one of the most remarkable engines on the market today. I have noticed some differences.

  1. A change in size, parking on the drive and leaving 3ft of space between hedge row and the car or getting to a junction and realising you 6ft away from the stop line, can be quite embarrassing.

  2. The lack of automatic lights and auto dimming mirrors, a real first world problem I know… But after driving around in a £45,000 luxury car for a week it does make the A to B run about seem a bit agricultural

  3. No more automatic gear box, forgetting to change gear, stalling and finding hill starts very difficult, takes you back to just passing your test.

I know these are not substantial problems however they are some of the first world problems you encounter as a motoring journalist.

As a nondriver, I do not know the joy of driving one of these beautiful cars you post about but I do admire their lines ... beauty is beauty ... but i know my husband would be salivating all over the keyboard ..upvoted and resteemed.

That's one of the first things, if it's not good looking in some shape or form it won't be instant attraction, thank you 😊

Oh boy do I know the feeling. I myself have a 1995 Opel (Vauxhall) Astra F GL but the so called 'Grand Luxe' I can't seem to find in the car xD
Mainly I drive our family car (the company car of my dad) which changes frequently ranging from Mercedes C-class to BMW 3 Series and sometimes some less appealing cars like the Opel Mokka we recently had. Every time I get behind the wheel in my Astra it feels like a step back in time...

We know exactly what you mean, one week its a Tesla Model S the next its a hard core hot hatch Fiat 595. We defiantly get our hands on a wide range of cars!

I am driving a blue fiesta 1.0 ecoboost as well, but for my market ,it does come with automatic headlights and wipers, PowerShift DCT mated with the 125ps engine tune.

We dont get the LED DRL's though, just plain basic headlights. Would love to get it...
