I'm not an expert on these cars, but I think this could be a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster that was first produced in 1960. The original 300 SL coupé came out in 1954 and it was a game changer.
Ultra Light
The "SL" stands for Sports Light (according to German sources perhaps Super Light), and indeed this street version of the Mercedes Gran Prix racer was light -- with aluminum hood, doors and trunk lid coming standard.

First Fuel Injection
"The 300 SL borrowed its 3.0 litre overhead cam straight-6 from the regular four-door 300 (W189 "Adenauer") luxury tourer introduced in 1951. Featuring an innovative diagonal aluminum head that allowed for larger intake and exhaust valves, it was canted to the right at forty-five-degrees to fit under the SL's considerably lower hoodline. In place of the W194's triple two-barrel Solex carburetors, a groundbreaking Bosch mechanical direct fuel injection was installed, boosting power almost 25% over the Gran Prix car's. Derived from the DB 601 V12 used on the high-powered Messerschmitt Bf 109E fighter of World War II, it raised output from 130 kW; 177 PS (175 hp) to 160 kW; 218 PS (215 hp), almost double that of the original Type 300 sedan's 86 kW; 117 PS (115 hp). The result was a top speed of up to 260 km/h (160 mph) depending on gear ratio and drag, making the 300 SL the fastest production car of its time." from Wikipedia, read the article hereHighly Successful
"More than 80% of the vehicle's total production of approximately 1400 units were sold in the US, making the Gullwing the first Mercedes-Benz widely successful outside its home market and thoroughly validating Hoffman's prediction. The 300 SL is credited with changing the company's image in America from a manufacturer of solid but staid luxury automobiles to one capable of rendering high-performance sports cars." from Wikipedia article herePrice
DM 29,000 in Germany and $11,000 (later $7,295) in the USA. Today one can cost over a million in $ or € !

If you have a little time to spare, I would recommend the Vlog of Johannes Schlörb, where he drives a classic "Gullwing"

Thanks Frank, I look forward to watching this in full later. But just from the beginning I learned I would never be able to fit into the original 300 SL. The film looks excellent, thanks for sharing!

Johannes Schlörb is known for his high quality films... It's mainly mercedes though but nevertheless perfect quality... I recently saw his video of the all new S-class... which triggered an urgent need to get an S-class soon! So, boost this post for gods sake... :))

Yes the film looks great, as soon as I find an hour I'm definitely going to watch it.
As for boosting -- music and cars are topics I really enjoy, but there doesn't seen to be much interest for those topics. I'll try and keep this Car of the Day going for a a while, but it doesn't seem to generate any interest. I may be forced to accept defeat. Fingers crossed that it changes.

Ich finde die Car of the day Kolumne cool... Und bin überzeugt dass es davon noch mehr gibt.

Thanks Frank. I'm also hoping that as steemit grows we will perhaps be able to develop more communities within the community. For example, the cryptos, and gold & silver are strong communities. Maybe car lovers and music people will find steemit in greater numbers.
In any case, one needs a lot of patience in the beginning. I remember some of my early post, on which I worked quite hard, not even passing the double digit cents mark (0.10) -- that was really discouraging. Then a steemit whale happened upon one of my posts, upvoted it very generously and resteemed it. That is amazing the first time it happens to you. But in our newbie situation that's the exception and not the rule. There is an element of luck and serendipity involved.
I'm following you now. I just upvoted your post about a Sunday Walk and nominated it to discordia. Cross your fingers, in a couple of hours you'll find out if your post made it.
