Jordan Reed scored his second touchdown of the night as Washington refuses to go quietly.

It was the third touchdown pass of the game for Cousins, who topped 300 yards passing on the play.

Third down plaguing Washington’s defense

The Redskins’ defense hasn’t been able to get the Eagles off the field on third down. Philadelphia entered the game with the best third-down offense, converting 50.6 percent of its attempts. During a crucial third-and-8 on the second play of the fourth quarter, Wentz somehow scrambled away from a collapsed pocket to gain 17 yards. He was surrounded by four Redskins defenders, yet Wentz escaped what appeared to be a inevitable sack to extend the drive. Six plays later, Wentz connected with Nelson Agholor for a 10-yard touchdown pass to extend Philadelphia’s lead back to 14 points.

Brandon Scherff is the latest Redskins lineman to limp off the field after an Eagles defender fell into the outside of his left knee. In obvious pain, Scherff fell to the turf before trainers attended to him and brought him to the sideline.

Philly’s got Mighty Mo

The momentum is clearly behind the Eagles here, and the Redskins’ opening drive of the second half stalled quickly. After taking the field for just one snap in the first half, it appears receiver Terrelle Pryor Sr. might be more involved here in the second. He was on the field for Washington’s first offensive possession in the third but wasn’t targeted by Kirk Cousins. Cousins hit Vernon Davis once and Jordan Reed twice on the quick drive but had no completions to Washington’s quiet receiving corps.

The Redskins did manage their first third-down conversion of the game but it didn’t come until six minutes had already passed in the second half. — Rick Maese

Carson Wentz: Good at football

Carson Wentz has been unstoppable. After starting the game 3-of-8 for 30 yards and an interception, Wentz has gone 9-of-11 for 183 yards and three touchdowns in less than nine minutes of playing time. The Eagles scored 21 unanswered points after Wentz’s nine-yard touchdown pass to running back Corey Clement in the third quarter. With the pocket collapsing, Wentz threw a beautiful pass near the sideline as Clement tapped both feet in bounds.

The Redskins haven’t been able to bring as much pressure as they did to start the game, but Wentz’s ability to make plays on three straight drives completely altered the game. — Master Tesfatsion

Philly extends its lead | Eagles 24, Redskins 10

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz evaded a strong pass rush from the Redskins then lobbed his third touchdown pass of the game into the back corner of the end zone to running back Corey Clement on third-and-goal from the nine-yard line.

Eagles’ Peters carted off

Eagles left tackle Jason Peters left the game at the start of the third quarter after a Redskins defensive lineman fell on the outside of Peters’s right knee. Medical staff immobilized the right leg and the highly-regarded tackle was carted off, but not before his teammates and foes came out to wish him well.

End-of-first-half lapse burns Redskins again

For the third straight game, Washington’s defense struggled at the end of the first half. It played extremely well through the first four drives, holding Philadelphia to just 35 total yards, but Washington allowed two touchdowns drives of 80 and 70 yards right before halftime.

Wentz connected with Mack Hollins on a 64-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 10 with 3:29 left. Hollins used a double move to get by D.J. Swearinger, who was the safety over the top on the right side of the field. It was a costly lapse in coverage, as Wentz threw a beautiful ball, while Swearinger couldn’t recover on the play.

Swearinger would concede a touchdown on the ensuing drive as well, a four-yard reception by Zach Ertz with 26 seconds left to give the Eagles the lead. Philadelphia marched down the field on a six-play, 80-yard drive in 90 seconds to score 14 unanswered points.

It’s a similar pattern we’ve seen from Washington. Through six games, it has now allowed 24 points inside the final two minutes of the first half. The Redskins allowed three points in that span in Week 1 and touchdowns each of the past three games. — Master Tesfatsion

Redskins lead in several key categories, but not on scoreboard

The Redskins are going to enter the second half with more total yards than the Eagles and on the preferred end of the time of possession battle. But despite impressing on both sides of the ball early, they trail at Lincoln Financial Field 17-10, and when coaches scan the stat sheet, there’s one thing that’ll certainly pop out: Washington’s offense was 0-for-5 on third-down conversions. — Rick Maese

Carson Wentz unleashed a beautiful deep ball to hit speedy wide receiver Mack Hollins in stride for a 64-yard touchdown.

After returning to the game after rolling his left ankle, Moses again left the action, this time rolling his right ankle.

Coming into the game, the Eagles had the NFL’s third-worst pass defense. They might not be moving up the rankings by time this one is finished.

Kirk Cousins is finding plenty of options and has already put the ball in the hands of six different pass-catchers. He found a wide-open Chris Thompson for a 7-yard touchdown that gave Washington a 10-3 lead and had 155 passing yards through just 1 1/2 quarters of play here. Thus far, he’s had sufficient time, as Trent Williams knee hasn’t slowed the veteran left tackle significantly. T.J. Clemmings took the place of Morgan Moses at the end of the Redskins’ scoring drive due to an ankle injury before Moses returned to the game. — Rick Maese

Running back Chris Thompson continued his impressive season with another touchdown, this one on a seven-yard swing pass out of the backfield from Cousins.

Morgan Moses leaves game

There was concern coming into the game that Trent Williams may not be 100-percent due to a knee injury. But in the second quarter, right tackle Morgan Moses was the one limping to the sideline to be examined in the injury tent. T.J. Clemmings replaced him temporarily on the Washington line, but Moses returned to the game on the ensuing drive.

Jake Elliott capped a 9-play, 63-yard drive with a 50-yard boot through the uprights. The drive was helped along by 30 yards worth of face-masking penalties by Washington.

Redskins’ secondary stays strong despite injuries

Washington entered the game thin at cornerback, and the situation became even more dire during the first half. It was already without Josh Norman, while Bashaud Breeland suited up despite a knee injury, but backups Fabian Moreau (hamstring) and Josh Hosley (chest) both suffered injuries during the game. With just three cornerbacks available, the Redskins defense played extremely well to start the game. Philadelphia’s offense had more penalties yards (31) than total yards (29) during the first quarter. Two more Washington defensive backs hurt

Cornerback Fabian Moreau is questionable to return with a hamstring injury. Josh Holsey also went to the locker room with a chest injury.

With Josh Norman inactive, the Washington secondary can’t afford to lose another defensive back here. That leaves Washington with cornerbacks Quinton Dunbar, Bashaud Breeland, Kendall Fuller — and little room for error. — Rick Maese

Redskins dodge an early bullet

Washington’s luck has been pretty strong to start the game. A Kirk Cousins’s pass hit the ground just before it could be intercepted on the Redskins’ second drive of the game. As it took possession to start its third possession, punt returned Jamison Crowder lost the football as an Eagles’ special team put his helmet right on the ball. Josh Holsey was able to recover for Washington at the Redskins’ 7-yard line.

Washington’s D starts strong

The Redskins’ first defensive stand couldn’t have gone smoother — with a huge assist from the Eagles and a series of yellow flags. It’s certainly not how Washington coaches drew it up all week but they’ll take it. Philadelphia’s first offensive possession was marred by four straight penalties: offensive pass interference, illegal block, holding and 12-men on the field. The result: Carson Wentz & Co. faced second-and-31 from the Eagles’ 4-yard line.

That set the stage for just enough pressure to force Wentz to loft a floater downfield, which fell into the arms of cornerback Quinton Dunbar, starting in place of injured Josh Norman.

The drive offered the first glimpse of what the Washington defense will look like without Jonathan Allen, who suffered a Lisfranc injury in last week’s win over the 49ers and was placed on injured reserves. Ziggy Hood lined up at nose, and Anthony Lanier II, active for the first time this season, remained on the sidelines. — Rick Maese

Terrelle Pryor idle early

Wide receiver Terrelle Pryor Sr. did not receive a snap on the opening drive, which lasted eight plays. He stood on the sideline while Washington rolled with second-year wideout Josh Doctson.

In last Sunday’s victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Pryor led all receivers with 61 snaps to play in 82 percent of the game. Redskins Coach Jay Gruden said he wanted to get Doctson more snaps moving forward, and that appears to be the case in the first quarter. — Master Tesfatsion

Nick Rose, signed to relieve the injured Dustin Hopkins, provided the game’s first points on a 27-yard field goal after Washington’s opening drive bogged down at the Philadelphia 9-yard line.

Fast start for Redskins and a fast exit for Eagles’ Hicks

The Redskins ran two plays and gained 37 yards to start the game.

Running back Rob Kelley returned to action and took the game’s first handoff six yards up the middle. Then Kirk Cousins found Vernon Davis down the seam for a 31-yard completion.

On that play, Philadelphia linebacker Jordan Hicks had to be helped from the field, unable to put any weight on his right foot.

Injury report and inactives

The Redskins ruled out Josh Norman from Monday night’s game earlier, as doctors have not cleared him to return after breaking his ribs in Week 4. Quinton Dunbar will fill in for Norman.

Meanwhile, Washington’s other starting cornerback, Bashaud Breeland will play despite battling a knee injury. Left tackle Trent Williams is also battling a knee injury and is active, but will require knee surgery following the season.

Safety Deshazor Everett will be inactive, however, giving more time to Montae Nicholson.
