Halloween Anime

Belated happy Halloween guys! I am here to present my drawing to you guys that I had just made now. It is a colorful piece that I made with colorful alchohol markers. Alchohol markers are the best!

So about this drawing I made, it is about a festival of children in costumes asking for candy A.K.A Trick or Treat. I just twisted the concept a bit and made it cartoony and colorful. Anyway I think this piece is colorful, so its cool!

Now before I move, I just want to mention that everything here is mine, nothing here has been borrowed. Thank you.

Process

Pencil

First I started with the rough sketches.
Drawing sceneries like these with a lot of characters is a good practice, it is challenging in a way that will make you be aware of things like multiple character relationships(spacing), gestures and poses.
It is important to be aware of those things since it will give your skills the edge to have that sense on illustrating big pieces with a lot of details like this.
Harmony, space and approach, these are the things that are important to big sceneries like these.
Start out with a few subjects or characters at first then as you establish your skills, add the number of subjects in your practices. Of course practice and hard work is needed, nothing can beat that.

In any illustration, either a painting, a banner or a comic page, it is important to know where would the eyes of the audience will land once they saw the piece.

A good referrence here is when you compare a blank piece of paper from a piece of paper with a dot or stain in the middle.

In the piece of blank paper with the dot, it is always meant to make the eyes of the audience to look at the dot first or any stains on it if there is any. While in the blank one, people would be looking on the random parts of the paper.

That behavior is part of human awareness, use it as one of the basis when you layout your work.

There, rough draft, done!

Pen and Ink

I started inking the eyes with a G-pen.
A G-pen is a manga pen. Manga pens are dipped into inks so you can load their nibs with ink so you can use it to draw.
.
Some professional comic and manga artists nowadays still uses nib and holders(saji,g-pen, kabura) even though there are graphic tablets that are way more convenient to use.
Maybe they just stick to the traditional way of illustrating because they feel the paper and the pen more than using a computer. They seriously trained for years on how to use those pens properly, its hard to just suddenly shift from a medium to another, and on the top of that some of them are already getting old so learning to use the computer to do comics will be a tough task for them, I think.

Done with inking.

Coloring with Markers

I started with mohawk kid with coloring his nose and companion tubby with brown.

I applied gray for the shadows. I wanted mohawk kid to have white skin, so I left it as it is.
I then colored his shirt with the new color of the platform. Pale green.
Then colored his shorts with blue.
You know, this post is already getting too long, I took more step by step process of coloring the characters that I liked here in this piece, so from now, please do enjoy the remaining process. Seriously, I have no much to say anymore. Hahaha.

Nice? I think in traditional illustrating, markers are the best, so cheers!
