What makes 'Rick and Morty' an outstanding animation?

Hello Steemtis! Maya`s here. Long block of text, so before reading prepare a tea ;).

I didn't think I would wait for a cartoon, or even for a series or film with such impatience. Today, I wonder how to explain to people the genius and relevance of this production.

I stopped being up to date with other big series. The golden era of the series has made there are too many great productions to find all the time for them. And despite their apparently high level, it is not difficult to find anything simply secondary.

I like animations, because in them the creators can let fantasy run down. Watching Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, Archer, BoJack Horseman - cartoons can be great, full of emotion and sometimes simply rejuvenating entertainment.

However, Rick and Morty declassifies all animations, even BoJack. The story of his grandfather and granddaughter is a tale that perfectly captures the spirit of our times.

Rick and Morty is a variation on the topic of a brilliant scientist and his young, not as clever as himself, companion. Grandfather Rick takes Morty for intergalactic and interdimensional adventures. Another important thread is the peripeties of the rest of the family - Rick's daughter, Beth, her incompetent husband, Jerry, and their teenage daughter Summer.

The cartoon is full of jokes, aliens often resemble penises or vagina, and the viewer never knows what the heroes are waiting for in the following episodes. More importantly, however, the creators - Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, known from the creation of Community - are not afraid to throw nihilism, chaos and the senseless existence of realism in the faces of viewers.

Rick is an alcoholic. He drinks probably because he forgets the senselessness of the world. He drinks so much that he cannot even commit suicide. Morty is not very intelligent and can be manipulated. Beth has a complex at his father's point and seeks his approval. At the same time, she is tired in a marriage she marries because of her high school pregnancy. Jerry is stupid, but at the same time extremely naive and incompetent. Summer goes through the teenage rebellion phase and constantly sticks to the screen of the phone.

Everyone is unhappy. Partly by Beth's and Jerry's unsuccessful marriage, partly by Rick, who seems to have everything and everyone in his nose.

The series presents a world in which there is an infinite number of dimensions. In each of them, there may be any possible scenario. Imagine this, the realities in which the Third Reich won the Second World War, or the worlds in which you never broke free from your first love. A land on which all "what would have been if..." are real, in which we ourselves are completely different people.

These parallel realities are the key to interpreting the series, but also a way to understand the insomnia of existence. It is the vastness of the Universe translated into animation. Rick travels between realities and the viewer does not know whether Morta is his original grandson, or perhaps Rick has already jumped from reality to reality and has lost connection with his true family and original self. One can only guess why he is drinking, why he is always depressed and why he doesn't care about anything.

Rick and Morty are great jokes with several layers of meaning (like the famous butter feeding robot), 20 minutes of entertainment, but also - for the more persevering - extra hours spent on deciphering tips and checking the theory on the Internet.

The Nihilistic message of animation confronts the viewer with senseless existence. It seems ideal in times of uncertainty and chaos.

Rick and Morty touches more important and relevant threads than dozens of major productions. He knows his existentialism, and the entertainment layer is great even if we reject a deep message.

Rick and Morty is a production that everyone should know. It has a huge, though not very visible, impact on culture. I think it will be a reference point for many creators and cultural experts over the next decades. No, I am not exaggerated - I am sure I am sure.
