"Le véritable voyage de découverte ne consiste pas à chercher de nouveaux paysages, mais à avoir de nouveaux yeux". -Proust

("The real journey of discovery is not to look for new landscapes, but to have new eyes".)

There is a concept of effortless perfection, of deep refinement with the appearance of everydayness, even abandonment. There is a concept in which the ordinary really hides the exquisite, but it is necessary that we train ourselves, that we learn to see in order to find it.

This concept, called in Japanese culture Shibumi has been one of the most influential findings I have had in my appreciation of the beautiful, of the aesthetic. Beautiful imperfection. Understated excellence. Discrete pretensionless perfection.

It is about those landscapes, objects, poetry, decorations, people? with a simple, modest surface, that could easily go unnoticed ... but whoever takes the trouble to see beyond, will discover such a degree of perfection, of refinement of beauty hardly related to our first impression.
