Un 4 de octubre de 1957, un extraño sonido escuchado por radioaficionados, despierta el interés por el enigmático ruido que provenía fuera de la atmósfera terrestre. Media hora después la incertidumbre se disipa: la Unión Soviética anunciaba el lanzamiento del satélite Sputnik I, abriendo así la posibilidad del hombre en llegar al espacio.
