Chartreux Cat
Shorthair cats hail from far and wide. It’s not unusual to explore different regions of the planet to discover vastly different breeds of shorthair cats that vary both in appearance and temperament. While most of the shorthair cats will be easy on the grooming side, it’s still important to consider the habits and needs of the pedigree. For instance, confining cats that normally enjoy frequenting the outdoors and exploring will have a negative impact on a long-term basis. Research and understanding of the various pedigrees will help owners get a head start when looking after their new companions.
The Chartreux Cat is another shorthair breed that comes from France. It’s appearance is very similar to the blue British Shorthair but it is a different breed entirely. In fact, the Chartreux is highly regarded in France as the national cat. The origins of the cat are not clear but it has popped up numerous times during historic recollections in France. It has rooted itself deeply into the cultural heritage of France as one of the most iconic cats in the country. Similar to other cats across the world, the Chartreux faced a difficult dilemma during the second world war. At this time, War had not only affected the state of the population but cats would also feel its effects around the world. Once again, to save the breed from being wiped out, the use of Persian cats that were readily available at the time were used to continue breeding of the Chartreux. This limited addition to the gene pool can still be seen today as litters may sometimes produce kittens with longer fur coats. The dormant gene sometimes manifests and this is a remnant of the effort to save the breed from extinction.
While shorthairs normally have densely packed coats, the Chartreux has slightly more volume in its fur. As a result of this, it begins to see some distinction between itself and the British shorthair. The coat can appear as a little more wooly in texture and will be softer on touch. It stature is also a little less bulky in comparison to the British cat, its legs are naturally slimmer and reduces its silhouette by a fair degree. The French cat has only gained traction on an international scale in recent years and is a great choice for prospective cat owners. They are curious cats that will enjoy affectionate relationships within the household.
What a beautiful kitty. These are ours.

We're not sure, we found the grey one in a junkyard 8 years ago and adopted the old man at 11, two years ago. 🐾
