Wtf are you looking at, dumb hooman?
Yoda has decided to colonise a vintage crate wherein I dumped some old curtains abandoned by a previous tenant. Perfect for him to laze around in because it's rained a lot in the last few days, and all of his normal lurking spots outside are wet. Normally, he only presents himself for meals, and spends the rest of the time stalking birds or hiding under the prickly pear. I heard that some roving dogs chased him out of his lair the other day and cornered him but he fought back and gave them both a hiding. That experience brought him into the yard more often, although not in the house, until the rain. Thus, I got a rare opportunity to photograph his unruly self.
Curling up inside the box is for those who like to follow the rules
Unfortunately, he needs to go to the vet but I am out of cash to take him so it will have to wait. He seems to have an autoimmune response in his feet, called plasmacytic pododermatitis, aka "pillow foot" which causes his paw pads to swell. It isn't painful to him although it does cause cracks, which can ulcerate, but to get a proper diagnosis will require sedation and a biopsy so it will be expensive. Then there's also the problem of treating him. This is not a cat who appreciates being held still and medicated, he'll take your face off if sufficiently annoyed.
There are at least 2 paws affected
The vet thinks I'm nuts to tolerate this cat but the truth is that I adore him even though he's obnoxious. I raised him from when he was a five-week-old starving feral kitten that I found dying on a pavement in the inner city. He's 8 years old now and as feisty as ever. So we'll figure out something for the boy in due course

What a beautiful cat! I just researched natural remedies for pillow foot in cats and found possible help with Epsom salts. Aloe vera, apple cider vinegar to name a few. Turmeric is also amazing for healing on multiple levels for cats.

Thanks! The one problem is, no matter the remedy, I still have to find ways to get it into him

Turmeric powder can be mixed with some wet meaty food. Solutions with Epsom salts could be squirted onto the paws from a water mister bottle..

Hell no, he would lick epsom salts off of his paws ad that's the last thing I want thim ingesting. Turmeric and apple cider vinegar are unfortunately not a cure-all and can cause stomach upset. Aloe vera could be helpful on his paws, I'll look into that

Haha, Yoda giving you the evil eye in that first shot. Cat's have a knack for it don't they?
My 22 year-old cat Merlin (mostly indoor cat) was out with my wife the other day...Caught a bird and brought it inside. It lived, but how about that huh? 22 years-old and still catching birds...Little bugger!

He’s such a good looking cat with unusual colour! So full of fighting spirit!
Hope you’ll be able to get him some herbal remedy meanwhile!

Thanks, he is a beauty. Unfortunately, I don't think that herbal remedies will help him

Such an important smug cat, it is immediately evident that he feels himself master here.

I wonder if some cetaphil would cure kis feet.

Cetaphil might be helpful for the cracks but it won't affect the root cause of the swelling, which is autoimmune

He's a beautiful cat, to be sure... thanks for caring for him, and giving him a home!
We had one with pillow foot many years back, and the only thing that seemed to make a difference was a course of doxycycline (sp?), but of course that requires a vet visit... and then getting it IN the cat.
=^..^=

Yes, doxycycline is the treatment, usually a very long course, too. That could only be fun with this guy

We have found that medicating our Ferals is quite a challenge. They do not hesitate to perform a "Blood Donation" from us if we try to grab them.
Mad Respect 2 You @nikv for your rescue of Yoda...!! I knew I liked You for some reason... Lol
Kittas Salute to You on this Caturday here on the highway......

3 of my 5 cats were born feral and the other 2 are strays. The other 2 ferals came to me at at a much later stage in their lives but they are much easier to handle than this guy.
Salute to you, your ginger miracle boy (and the others)

Hope everything goes well for you and your Yoda. I just discovered that your page said I was not following you. Don't know when that happened. To my knowledge I had always been following you. I am now following again.

He's so beautiful and looks so cozy! Oh I can't imagine forcing a cat into anything I think they know that and the look is enough for me to let them go wherever they want. But I love to miaw back 😆😎
