CBD oil, made from cannabis, is popular for calming anxiety

Natalie, who has bought a bottle of Cannabidiol (CBD) oil online, has a few questions she wants answering before she decides whether to take it.

On this BBC video journey Natalie meets a hemp farmer, a scientist and tests the product at a laboratory.

CBD products, which are made from a cannabis extract, are very popular but currently there is no specific regulation about their production.

Oooh I'll give that a watch this evening, I thought I had seen all the BBC doccos

Thank you ukcannabis. I think you will enjoy it.Wide ranging and revealing, it shows the confused state of the cbd cannabis industry. But as ever, out of chaos will cometh order.

And that was the encouraging positive conclusion the lab scientist came to when summing up at the end.

Its good that CBD is getting some coverage by the BBC but when Natalie is told “Speak to your doctor about it” I think this is bad advice in my opinion as doctors did not study CBD in their training, so they probably know no more than anyone else on it. We know its harmless and we know the USA have been researching it for years. It is unlikely your doctor is going to know how dosage works, let alone whether it is full spectrum CBD or not.
The research has been done, speak to the Americans and Canadians .

I agree with you though, it had a positive end :-)

Thank you.
It is difficult to decide if the orthodox medical profession are dragging their feet over cannabis.
Orthodox doctors generally were cynical about my belief in herbal and plant medicine during my 32 years in business.

But after initially being critical of their reluctance to prescribe cannabis derived medicine for siezures in children, even though the government have legalised it to be prescribed by Specialists, I am now more aware of their dilemma.

It has to do with insurance. Until scientific tests have been completed by NICE the doctors say they will wait to see evidence based approval before they can confidently prescribe.

The frustrating irony is the United States approve a British developed cannabis drug Epidiolex for seizures in children, but we are reluctant to prescribe it until we have done our own science.

The only CBD formulation given legal approval to date in the United States by the DEA is Epidiolex for Charlotte's Syndrome Seizures which was developed in the U.K. by GW Pharmaceuticals, using research Cannabis also grown in the U.K.

One of the doctors should take a leap of faith, there have been plenty that did it in the USA, and its still federally illegal.
No one wants to be the first.
And yes the UK government cultivate Cannabis in Hackey, London as well as in Bury St Edmunds. They extract parts of the plant to make their synthetic version called Sativex, which has had the majority of the Cannabanoids removed. Thats another story though.

My goodness ukcannabis you've provided some research searching for me this morning.Thank you.
Intrigueing, but the same confusion and uncertainty reigneth judging by the comments on a Sativex website.
I think doctors in some American states can prescribe federally banned cannabis medication without fear, because their home state regulators have a relaxed attitude as long as they pay the taxes.
It's a can of worms alright!

Absolutely! I think they need to shine a light on this grey area.
At least our new Prime Minister Boris Johnson has recently employed two Cannabis advocates! One as his political secretary and one as an advisor, so there is hope! :-)

Ooh! I like the sound of that.
When it does come I hope they will be stricter on regulation enforcement.Don't let the bad guys muscle in to irresponsably exploit, profit and cause harm.
But as in America, I expect national & local government will play into the villains hands by imposing high taxes and too many of them.
